Me and my fiance just cancelled our wedding because we could never find enough money for it. So instead we are just gunna go to the courthouse with our small families (about 10 people total)  and then take pics afterwards. We might have a small BBQ at our house a couple weeks after. So nothing fancy going on at our wedding.

We have been through so much that we both need a great honeymoon. But im just worried it wont ever happen because its so expensive to go on a trip. So im asking if anyone knows of any cheap honeymoon ideas.

    please and thank you!!

It doesn't sound like you cancelled your wedding at all, just rearranged it!

A wedding is a wedding, no matter how big, how small, on a train or in the rain ;)

I know this wasn't your original question, but had you considered hiring an officiant or having a friend officiate in your backyard, at your bbq, in front of your family and friends? Potluck that event and forget decorations and I think you've got yourself a backyard wedding.

Anyway, though, there are loads of different inexpensive trips. Where are you located?

I'm outside Chicago and Michigan has so many different beach spots (New Buffalo being my favorite) and the dunes are on the way up there. A stop at the beach for a day, then a stop at the casino, then antiquing/shoppin/eating in New Buffalo! Most perfecto, if you ask me!

I tried planning the wedding in my parents backyard but it was still to expensive for us. Our orginial honeymoon was on a cruise but the had to cancel that. I live in georgia, in the country...nothing exciting to do around here. lol.

I know that it sounds strange, but check groupon and ideeli!  They often have all inclusive resorts for about 500 for two people and they last up to a week.  All you have to go is get yourself there and pay for any excursions you want to do!

    Here's 1 night (Be Spontaneous Package) for $299: http://azaleainn.com/specials-and-packages/

    *Their 2 night is $499

    Here's 2 nights for $599 - http://www.theoverlookinn.com/north-georgia/specials/

    (The Romantic Package)

And here's a 1 night starting at $182 (Bed and Breakfast package)

    http://www.chateauelan.com/packages/escape.php

Maybe stay somewhere like that and see the local sites? You might not think there is anything interesting there, but the city center will beg to differ! It might not be something you've "always wanted to do" but sometimes checking out what's around is the best kind of adventure :)

I'm not sure where in GA you are, but Savannah is always nice. We went to St. Augustine, FL for a couple days and that was pretty nice and not too far.

I agree with previous posters that Savannah is quite romantic, you could maybe find a nice bed and breakfast to stay at - http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/savannah-georgia.html

Like PPs, I would agree with checking out some of the travel getaways on Groupon, LivingSocial, or Yuupon.

You could go on a cruise. If you go during the off season, there are some great deals! Plus, cruises leave out of Charleston, so you could drive to the port.

My stepmom suggested Savannah to us as well. She actually mentioned many places that she claimed were beautiful and so romantic, but I cannot remember the names of the places.

How far are you from Chattanooga?  That's always a fun place to visit.

You could look on homeaway.com for a place to rent for a few days, maybe in the Georgia mountains?

I don't know what your budget is, but you could even try finding a B&B in a nearby town and stay.

If it's a super tight budget, maybe splurge on staying in a nicer hotel or B&B for a night and then have a stay at home honeymoon for the rest.  You could take a few days and buy lots of good food, watch movies, stay in PJ's all day and have a "No Chores, No Phones, and No Computer" rule.

@s.renea9: What is your budget? We might be more helpful if we knew what "cheap" means for you. :)

@impatientlypatient: I was going to suggest the same exact thing. Here is a list of some more sites that offer very affordable travel packages:

Travelzoo.com (top 20 gets released once a week and has some great deals)

    Sniqueaway.com

Orbitz.com often has great deals and there are always coupon codes for that site as well

    CheapCaribbean.com

    LivingSocial.com

Just to name a few :)

I'm sure you could find a beach house or hotel in Florida. We considered going there, but since Florida is a 16+ hour drive and there's no way we could afford plane tickets, we decided to go to a beach closer. In June, we would have ended up paying a little over a thousand. If you're still getting married in March, it should be a lot cheaper since it's not vacation season yet. Just choose a beach that is not as popular. Not only will it save you money, but it will also be more peaceful! A hotel room may be cheaper than a beach house. We're going to Nags Head, NC and a hotel room is a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the cheapest beach houses. We've also considered instead of staying for a week, staying for one or two less days. Our budget is basically the same as yours - $1000 for the hotel room at the highest, but we're trying to keep it around $800 so we have some extra cash for gas and money to go out and eat while we're there.

The carnival cruises out of Charleston and Mobile are close by and great. Super cheap, super fun.

EDIT: I do think the one out of Charleston is much nicer than mobile, though. The Charleston ship has been renovated and is just cleaner than the Elation (mobile ship)

I live in SW Florida and we have nice beach areas here. Ft Myers Beach/Sanibel/Captiva. Sarasota FL also has nice beaches.

You might check out the FL Panhandle. That would be closer and again they have nice beaches there also.

VRBO.com is a great place to use if you want to rent a house or condo for a week.

Also, there are alot of cruises out there for under $1,000. You could drive to FL and get on a cruise.

    Hope you figure it out!

I don't know where in GA you are, I'll be moving to the Duluth area this year. One of the places I want to go to is Jekyll Island. (if there is a beach I'm happy) I was actually thinking of eloping there. My wedding is in Feb so I would get winter rates but you might want to check out the island if you haven't been there before.

    Good luck and congratulations

Cruises can be fun but they can also get really expensive. If you stay within your budget you can have lots of fun. I see that you are from Georgia so taking a trip to Florida and then a small cruise? about two years ago the hubby and I went to Cancun in Mexico for a week in a nice resort, and spent about 3000 dollars. Which can be less if you choose another hotel and spend less on food.

All of ya'lls ideas are really helping me decide on what to do. But the good thing is we just pushed our wedding date back to september, it was in april. So now we can save more money, and i wont be so stressed.

Thank you everyone for giving me ideas, and if you have anymore, please do tell =]

I'm not sure where you are in Georgia or what exactly your budget might be, but FI and I bought a LivingSocial deal and spent one night in a wonderful bed and breakfast near Helen, GA this summer.  We live in Atlanta so it was about an hour and a half drive northeast; not too bad.  The B&B was lovely and sat on top of a hill so you could sit on the back porch and watch the sun set over the hills in the distance.  The owners are very nice and everything was very comfortable.  It was such a relaxing trip; we LOVED it and will definitely go back again someday.  They do weddings there, too.  It's called Lucille's Mountain Top Inn; look it up and/or PM me if you're interested.  Helen, GA is styled as a Bavarian village and has some interesting stuff, too.

We rented a beach house for my 30th birthday last year (the weekend we also got engaged!) and the price was SO reasonable and you could probably find some that are really cozy and the perfect size for just the two of you to enjoy :)  My experience was in Grand Haven, MI... so I'm not sure you'd want to travel north if you're so close to the beach already.  I would look into Hilton Head maybe (friends of mine had their honeymoon there and then drove over to Savannah, GA for a day trip and they really liked it there too).  www.vacationrentals.com is what I used though, there are many sites and really helpful reaviews :)  I've also tossed around the idea of a cabin rental in TN or SC, they are so beautiful and seem so romantic :)  Good luck!
