So I’ve been looking at wedding venues for the ceremony and reception, and am realizing that the ones that fit in with my preferences (bright with big windows, inside so the climate can be controlled) are often very huge– with a capacity of about 200-300 people.
Our wedding is going to be small, about 45 or 50 people.
I really want the brightness, so cabins or barns are no good, and I love the modern look. The issue is that the amount of guests will be swallowed by the room (according to venue reps).
Does anyone have any photos from receptions they had in CT (preferably within an hour and a half from Hartford) with a small guest list, or somewhere where a small guest list wouldn’t be overwhelmed?
Thanks in advance!

The Pond House Cafe in West Hartford has a garden room with a whole wall of windows that is bright and very pretty. The room is somewhat large but I believe can be partitioned off for a more intimate setting. It’s worth a look!

We are getting married at Avon Old Farms Hotel in Avon, CT. Absolutely AWESOME place. We are having around 75-85 guests, and I had the same concern as you – every room looked like it would swallow our party up. Not the case at AOFH – the room is a lovely size, the space for cocktail hour is awesome, and they have beautiful grounds for an outdoor wedding. If it rains? No biggie – they have a gorgeous 3 story atrium lobby that is perfect for a ceremony space. I looked high and low, all over CT and AOFH was by far the best. The food is fantastic (we had our tasting in April.) And Gail, the even coordinator there, is extremely responsive and helpful.
Oh, and the prices are SO reasonable. Check it out. I hope you like it!

I totally feel for you. I am sure you found a place by now. But if you haven’t here was a place that I really wanted to check out for my wedding.
But after I figured out that hiring a caterer and paying for bartender and all that would put me over my budget, i never went to check it out. But it looks really cool I mean, I really wanted to get married on the stage LOL.
