So while searching these boards to figure out what to bring to dress shopping (oh how I love Wedddingbee!), I read about people recommending wearing shapewear for both modesty and the smooth look. And then I realized most of the dress styles I like are rather form-fitting in the middle part. So, that seems like an awesome idea.

The thing is, I have this weird body. Or maybe not so weird, you tell me! I am basically pear-shaped but very bony-looking on top. Like, I don't fill a 32AA, and I have the kind of collarbones that stick out at my shoulders (someone once told me it reminds her of the angel dude who cuts off his wings in Dogma and has little bones sticking out at the shoulders).

Here's the thing, in a normal relaxed position, my stomach totally sticks out! It doesn't look fat in the sense of lumpy rolls or cottage cheese texture. In fact it looks rather firm. But also... voluminous. And it's especially noticeable after I eat! My sister jokes that I look pregnant, and it's kinda totally true, given how skinny my arms, shoulders, and chest look! (Hmm when WAS the last time I got my period? j/k)

So, do I need shapewear? If so, what kind? Does anyone have a solution for a body like this? Something that would pull my tummy in and make it look slightly less silly? Or should I figure out a way to make it look like I have boobs, to make my stomach look smaller? I kinda just don't want to look pregnant after dinner.... lol.

I would try some Spanx.  There is the 30 ish dollar kind but it's made of nylon material like the ones you wear on your legs.  Then there's the 70ish dollar ones that are alot tighter and hold you in really well.  I have both and use them depending on how much tummy control I want.  I bought them both at Nordstrom.

Cool, I was looking at Spanx. Do you get the kind that goes to about where your bra line is? Or maybe sits at your waist?

For the day of the wedding, I had a bra/corset.  It was the Valmont 7642.  Even if the bra doesn't fit you exactly, you can have padding put into the bra to make it work (just ask the seamstress at the bridal salon to help you with it).  It helped to prevent my stomach from protruding on the day of the wedding, even with all the food I ate!

I would try Spanx too... just discovered it and I love it!! I prefer the kind that goes to just below your bra, cos I find that the kind that sits at your waist can create strange bulges above it... but maybe that's just me ;-)

Hmm this is a tricky one!  Spanx is more of a smoother and a suckeriner... but I am not sure if that would be as helpful as something maybe with boning that might change your shape a little more.  I think if you are tiny (and it sounds like you are) I wouldn't worry about it!  Once you find the dress you love, you will feel great in it.  Also, I think once you know what your dress is, you will know what undergarments to buy.

Hi, I don't know if you find the secret weapon you are looking for, but here's a great shapewear site:www.annetteonline.com. I think that for your body type you need a shapewear were you can wear with your own bra, so you  ware a 32AA bra or your size and for your tummy a shaper. Check styles SW-205,SW-212, SW-213 or SW-214. This is perfect for you since you can adjust the straps to your height  and as the same time, the shaper will bring your breast a little closer, so you will see a little push up....hopefully this could work. Annette's quality is #1.
