I will have about 75 people at my wedding.
I am thinking of doing one small 6-8″ displayed one tier cake (mostly just for the cutting of the cake, etc. that still feeds 30), with lots (probably 96) cupcakes.
I will top my little cake with hydrangea (my flower of choice) with a green ribbon around it for decoration, and then mix light pink, white and light green cupcakes around the raised cake.
Does this sound like a good idea?
Wedding cake is $3.5 a piece otherwise, and my cake budget is only $150 because we are full time students and paying for our wedding ourselves.

I love that idea. We are doing a small cake and then cupcakes on a tiered stand.

@2littleslauren: Great idea. If any of your guests are like me they will prefer a cupcake to a slice of cake anyway.

That’s pretty much what we’re planning on doing with the addition of banana pudding shots since my FI doesn’t like cake. I love the idea because I can’t decide on my favorite flavors so I’m going to have a ton of flavors in mini cupcakes. 🙂

My FI doesn’t like cake– but LOVES cupcakes. I think a lot of people feel that way. The people who MUST have cake can– 25 of them 😉 Everyone else gets cupckaes, lol.

I think it’s a great idea! Plus, there is always a ton of cake left over and cupcakes are easier to give away than cake!

We had a 6″ cake to cut and cupcakes. It worked out really well and allowed us to offer multiple flavors (so everyone can be happy). 🙂
As far as display, we rented the cupcake stand and a giant tree stump from the baker.
