- Wedding: October 2010
So, FH and I live in San Francisco, but we are getting married in Mesa, AZ/Phoenix, AZ where we used to live. Most of our friends live there, but our families are all over the place. Namely, FH’s grandparents who are coming from Germany. I couldn’t be more thrilled that they are traveling all that way for our wedding, but it’s creating some issues. They don’t know their way around (obviously) and they don’t speak any English. Basically, they are expecting us to take care of them while they are there.
We are flying into Phoenix exactly a week before our wedding and that time is reserved for a bunch of last minute wedding stuff. We’ve been telling all out of town guests (including said grandparents) that while we wish we could spend time with them before the wedding, we really don’t have the time to do it. We even advised his grandparents to come into town only a couple says before the wedding so that they wouldn’t have to spend to much time alone. Despite this, they booked a flight five days before the wedding and made reservations at a hotel as far away from where were are staying as possible (about a hour drive, without traffic).
I’m just frustrated. I don’t want them to think that we are ungrateful that they are coming, because really, I’m excited. But driving two hours everyday back and forth to make sure they are ok the week of my wedding, is just not possible.
If anyone has any helpful suggestions, I would love to hear them….
