Two yeas does sound long, especially since you have already been dating for eight years but you guys are super young! This is a fun time in your lives so just enjoy it! Sounds like you are both good for each other and also rational which helps in a relationship. :) Glad to hear some good news from a waiting bee!
Well, obviously I'm still hoping he will ask me sooner than that, lol! But if he doesn't, I know it will be for good reasons. I'm going to be really busy with my finals and then my postgrad course, so I'm sure time will fly by, plus we also have setting up our home to look forward to and getting used to living together. Sorry for being away for a while! Congratulations to all the waiting bees who have got engaged lately! :)
Over the weekend my SO and I had our 8 years anniversary!! We had a lovely weekend, and we talked about a couple of engagement type things :)
Background: we are both 22 and finishing university this summer, then in September we are moving in together, and he is starting work while I am doing a postgrad qualification before starting a job in Feb 2014. We have already agreed we won’t be getting married before then, as I will still be getting some financial help from my parents while studying. Plus we would both like to buy a house as soon as we can afford it, and honestly I think he wants a house before a wedding (to minimise time spent paying rent) but hasn’t quite said so in as many words – although I am starting to agree with him even though that means waiting longer. I have said, though, that I don’t want to buy a house without being engaged, which he agrees is reasonable.
We discussed the possibility of having a long engagement so that we can show our commitment to each other while continuing to save up for house/wedding :) We already have some savings from having both had a “year out” spent working as a part of our degree courses.
I let him know I would gladly help to pay for a ring and he is happy to let me help. Then he asked if I would like to choose my own ring, and I said I wasn’t sure, but maybe it would be good to go shopping together at some point so we can get an idea of what looks good on my finger.
I asked whether he would propose in the next two years, and he said "Promise" and gave me a big cuddle. I know for lots of waiting bees, 2 years is a loooong time but for us it’s a very reasonable timeframe, and really I am just happy knowing we are on the same page :) I feel much better knowing I have an "end-point" to the waiting and I can start counting down the months, even if it is 2 years away! Our relationship is in a good place at the moment and I can’t wait for when we move in together in a few months :)
