Our guest list is pretty small, 50-60 tops. I would love to throw a NYE wedding and know that our guests would come. Being that all my friends with the exception of 3 are in town and his family/friends are very very close(1-3 hrs away) None of them really do anything for the NY. My dad is totally on board. Its on a Wed. and would be fun! I know some people are allll about it here and some are not. Mostly due to the guests having to travel/fly. Besides that, what are the cons?

Big competition for venue space and vendors in many cities; rates may go up since there are already a ton of parties going on. Heavy police presence on the roads that night, so your guests either cannot drink at all if they’re driving, or need to sleep over/get a hotel. Normally I’m okay with someone having about 1 drink/hour if they’re driving, but not on nye when there’s a sobriety checkpoint on every corner. Some guests may not want to give up other plans.

@cherryblossomlove: We considered a NYE wedding too, and eventually decided against it. We didn’t go for it as most of our guests have to travel, and as it is the holidays it might be too expensive / the weather might be bad / people want to spend time with their families.
It sounds like most of your family is in town, so travel isn’t a concern. I would say that one con might be people want to spend time with their family on a holiday. Another con is that it might be really expensive to hire a venue, servers, people who will set up as it is a holiday.

Where would you want to have the wedding? I would suggest having something at your house or somene else’s backyard. I would start planning early food wise and contacting vendors/caterers. The main problem will be competition. I think it’s a wonderful idea though.

@Rouquine: at a wedding venue. I would love a hotel.

@fishbone: Oh ya, def.everyone get a hotel. I think if we ask everyone what they think and that would be easy for both our families. His family(gpa, gma and mom) love the idea so far. My dad is good with it. His friends think Party party party! LOL

I’m having a NYE & very excited for it. For half the guests it would be a destination weding, but am planning to provide a shuttle to / from the venue the hotel i’ve reserved a block of rooms for. I’ve had the venue booked for a few months now but the only extra cost was the penalty rates for the staff workign on the night – most other vendors are happy to negotiate seeings as it’s a wednesday. have fun planning!

On one hand I would love something to do for New Years, a wedding would be fun!
On the other hand, it maybe snowy, depending where you live.
I work in accounting/fiinance and end of any month is a busy time, but especially the end of December as its the end of our financial quarter. I always have to work that day, and often until 7 or 8 pm, with few exceptions!
Some people may have to work the day after!

A girl I went to college with had her wedding on NYE two years ago and there was a terrible blizzard and the interstate was shut down and they couldn’t even get to her hometown where the wedding was supposed to be – her dad had to brave the roads to get home to bring her her wedding dress!! It was a disaster – they still had the ceremony so the date of their wedding would be ‘right’, but she was crying like the whole time – then they had a reception the next week when people could come…
Apart from that, it could be a great plan!! 🙂
