My wedding is in less than 2 weeks and I still need to find some nice makeup for the big day. My bridesmaid is going to do my makeup for me; I'm not that picky with the eyeshadow/lip color/blush, but I want to make sure I have some really nice foundation and mascara.

I'm thinking of purchasing these three products from Sephora:

    Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer:

    http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?categoryId=A17&id=P9889

Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation:

    http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?categoryId=A17&id=P217905

    Dior DiorShow Mascara:

    http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?categoryId=A17&id=P40404

I think there's a Sephora about 1 1/2 hrs away from me, but honestly I'm not sure if I'll have time to make the trip up there before the wedding. SO I'd need to choose a shade of foundation from looking online.

Have any of you used these products? What do you think? Are they worth the high pricetag?

I heart Smashbox primer and Dior mascara.  They're the best.  Don't know anything about the foundation though.  Are you going to be using powder?

Umm yeah I guess I will probably use powder. I don't regularly use it, but do own some. (Physician's Formula I think?)

The best bet then is to take your powder that you have, that is if you want to use it, and go to Sephora and have them find a great foundation that will blend nicely with it.  That way you don't need to buy yet another thing!

As for the Smashbox, they also have three tinted ones that either help with discoloration (peach bottle, goes on clear).  There's also a purple one and I think a green one.  They are also great.  I have freckles on my forehead that aren't so cute looking and the peach one works great.

I've contemplated just getting some decent foundation from a department store here (Clinique or something) and then just getting a really nice face powder like this:

Cool!  I don't know anything about that brand so I won't give opinions, but it looks like they have Primers too.  Have you tried any of their products before?

I bought the MakeUpForEver HD Foundation and have not looked back since! I actually bought it for my wedding makeup as well but have been using it on a semi-regular basis to get used to applying it, etc. (I typically use a tinted moisturizer only.) It is sooo fantastic. It provides really great coverage but does not feel heavy at all, and it is very easy to apply one light layer or multiple layers depending on the amount of coverage you needs.

The only issue I foresee you having is that there are a TON of different shades to choose from - great for finding one just right for you, but probably really confusing if you are buying online. When I bought mine I had one of the Sephora SAs test a few shades out on my skin.

I was drawn to your post as soon as I saw the title, I love all three of these products! Lol I tend to love all make-up but I especially love these 3 products.

I agree with honeylove26 about finding the right shade for the foundation, that is a must. Another thing is you might want to invest in a foundation brush to put it on with, it give you a airbrushed look and doesn't waster any of the foundation like sponges tend to do.

But besides this I don't have anything to say about them, the mascara is great and the primer is awesome too. I highly recommend you geting them.

DiorShow works great, but I dont use it anymore.  It kinda melts and gets under my eyes.  Also, the PhotoFinish is WONDERFUL, but I can tuse it under my Bare Minerals makeup, so I dont use that anymore either, sadly

Yeah, the color of the foundation is the main thing that worries me...but making it to a Sephora store before the wedding really might not be an option.

Would you all recommend just getting the smashbox primer and the mascara for now and finding a foundation at a department store by me? If so, any recommendations for brands/types? (Clinique, Lancome, etc.)

I was just shocked at the performance of  Smashbox primer and Dior mascara.  They're the best.  AND I'm the MOM of the Bride......   worth every cent.

Amazing how smooth Smashbox makes your makeup apply.  don't know how I lived without it.

The Sephora store in our area, Tampa~ does excellent on matching you with the right products, offering great color suggestions, so I STRONGLY suggest getting there with that foundation~ which can make or break your look.

I understand about the Sephora thing, I love them but there aren't any near me. :(

But, you might want to check out an Ulta Cosmetics store, I think there are some near you, they are like Sephora but with a little less brands I think. They usually also have a hair/makeup salon in them. Ulta does carry Make Up Forever and Smashbox. So if you have the chance you might want to stop by one. There is a store locator on their wevsite, www.ulta.com Good luck!

I give a thumbs up on the smashbox primer, I've never tried the foundation, and for the mascara - Dior is good, but I have thin/sparse lashes and I've found the best to be Benefit's Badgal - thick, lengthening and even the non-waterproof version stays put really well

Okay, I just placed my order for the smashbox primer and the dior mascara; I'm going to go to my local mall and check out the counters at Macy's...surely I can find a decent foundation there!

Any recommendations on the brands at Macy's?

I haven't tried it yet (but I will don't worry hehe) but I'm pretty sure Macy's carries Benefit cosmetics and they have a new foundation called Hello Flawless that is supposed to be really good.

They also carry Chanel products and they have great foundation, I can't think of the specific name though right now. Macy's usually also has a MAC counter which you should check out.

I would recommend going and shopping around and even getting a makeup trial by one of the people who works at the counters, that way you can try before you buy and they are usually free. MAC is very big on that. Hope this helps. :)

    NC Girl

I've recently started wearing the Make Up Forever HD foundation. It does look good, and feels very light... but the one thing I've noticed is how easily it transfers. As in, I can lightly touch my face and then it's on my fingers. (Even with using the HD primer and powder.) It's great for pictures, because it's DESIGNED to sit on top of the skin... that's what gives that flawless look. But I'd be worried about a wedding. Um... wearing white? Hugging a lot of people? Last thing you want is make-up smudges.

I talked with a lady at Sephora and she said that the Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet foundation would wear longer and is more transfer resistant. Also a better option for oily skin (which I have). The HD Microfinish Powder is AWESOME! Gives a flawless look, and feels sooo silky.

I'm pretty sure Sephora is the only store that carries this brand. And you're right... matching your skin tone online is next to impossible to do. So I hope you find a great foundation at a department store. Ulta is really fun, great for Smashbox products (love their eye colors). And I have heard very good things about the Smashbox primer, but have never tried it.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

YAY! Love Sephora! As an admitted makeup junkie (not proud), I can tell you that the Smashbox Primer gets rave reviews....however, it broke me out. ICK! I have recently tried the Laura Mercier Flawless Face Foundation Primer- and it ROCKS! Seriously, just a gorgeous finish and no bumps! YES!

The Dior Show mascara is the best around- I give an enthusiastic TWO thumbs up!

I have not tried the makeup forever foundation :( BUT am a huge fan of Bare Minerals foundation. I am a southern girl and LOVE me some foundation- and was hesitant to believe that a mineral makeup could provide that amazing coverage that we girls are seeking. Let me tell you, when applied with a light hand and using Mineral Veil over the foundation, it is GORGEOUS. Just dewey and perfectly wedding day appropriate. I LOVE!  Even better, you can order the starter kit (light, medium, or dark) and it comes with all the appropriate brushes.  Easy peasy!

Good luck!  I know you'll be gorgeous girl!!

DiorShow mascara is worth every penny and then some!  I also really like the Smashbox primer but for the price, I'd probably see if MAC has something comparable.  A MAC makeup artist did my wedding makeup, so obviously he had to use all MAC products and my makeup looked great.  I haven't used the foundation you mentioned... I had the Smashbox HD foundation but it separated - you could see different layers in it - and this was having it less than a month.  So I returned it to Sephora and got Stila's version instead... it's great but just as expensive.

    Hope this helps

Diorshow mascara is all the way. the smashbox primer is pretty great- a bit greasy though, I'd go with the MUFE hd primer, which has an array of colour adjusting options. The foundation is well, ehhh. i'd go with airflash from dior, or capture totale.

Don't forget and afterpowder to set it all in place.

    [mufe hd as well]

It IS your wedding, after all.

I had the diorshow when it first came out, everyone and their mother loved it, but of course I'm the weird one that really doesn't like it. I've heard great things about the primer, never tried that one, I use the one Chanel makes.

The mu artist I had a trial with used lots of Becca, Nars, Armani ... she loved the armani sheer fluids. My mu looked amazing.

Do you have a JCPenney in closer proximity than the Sephora?  Most JCPs now have a "Sephora" in-store.  You can check their website (www.jcpenney.com) to see which stores carry Sephora products.

I currently wear the Makeup Forever HD Foundation and it really has worked the best for me.  I've used Smashbox, Clinique, Revlon, and a few other brands I can't think of right now (basically running the gamut of high end to drugstore brands).  I always had the problem of my foundation wearing off by mid-day (even with primer), but this one totally stays put!

    Hi There,

I haven't read the other replies so forgive me if I'm repeating things.  I LOVE the Make Up Forever HD foundationg.  It goes on so smooth.  it looks like air brush. and you can layer it for less or more coverage. I suggest using it with a foundation brush, not a spunge or your fingers.  Dust some colorless transluscent powder over it and your face will look flawless.

I was very disappointed with the mascara.  I had big hopes for it after seeing all the reviews but after trying it I tool it back.  It just didn't do anything for my lashes.  I expected volume but that was not the case.  I now use Lancome Hypnose in waterproof and cannot say enough good things about it.  It curls my uncurlable lashes and makes them so full!

The primer I have mixed feelings on.  I thought it worked well BUT not better than any of the other primers I tried.  The sephora brand primer that's a lot cheaper works just as well.

I like the Smashbox primer a lot, but I use the "light" version for my sensitive, acne-prone skin.

I tried the DiorShow mascara - it is currently sitting in my make-up bag unused. I prefer the Benefit BadGal mascara, and they have sample versions near the register at Sephora for cheaper (maybe $9). I'm not sure if you can order the samples online, although I recently received one with an online purchase when I used my points from the (free) Sephora Insider card.

I've actually found two drugstore mascaras to be comparable to DiorShow & prefer them over it - CoverGirl Lash Blast & Max Factor 2000 Calorie.

Smashbox primer is AWESOME, love it.  However, I absolutely HATE the Makeup Forever HD foundation.  It sinks into my pores bigtime.  Even with primer underneath.  I don't have huge, gaping pores, so I don't know why that happened.

If you're going to Macys, Estee Lauder carries a great foundation, the Individualist Natural Finish.  They will even make you a little 10 day supply so if you wanted to test drive it for a few days, you can.  It's medium coverage but I really liked how it felt, it was slightly dewey so it looked like skin and not 'makeup' and there is a wide range of colors.  Also, it looks really great in photos and natural light.  Hope you find something you love!  Also......if you wanted to go cheaper, Maybelline makes a liquid dream matte mousse that is AMAZING, the texture and finish is soooo gorgeous and it also photographs well.

I have used Smashbox photo Primer.  My skin is VERY dry and it makes me break out every time I use it.  I didn't really notice a difference.  I use Smashbox foundations and they are all fabulous without the primer.

Dior Show is okay.  Don't really think it's worth the money and I'm not sure what the hype is about.  I liked Maybelline Great Lash and Clinique better.

     Good luck!

Hey, I lived in Bloomington for four years so I know the lack of options :)

I'd order the primer and mascara and get the foundation at Macys. The girls there are pretty good and will do a good job matching. I just wouldn't risk a mismatched foundation!

Well, went to the mall yesterday and ended up getting some foundation at Clinique! I got the Super Fit kind..I think that's what it's called? She also suckered me into some loose powder, facial cleanser, and face toner...haha
