Hey fellow bees! Right now I am trying to decide between have a smores bar and candy bar at my June wedding. I know that I have the resources to do both, but with those AND a wedding cake would that be too much? They would be totally separate areas of the reception, but I don’t want to appear to be trying too hard. What do yall think??

@Ms. Sweet tooth: The nice thing about a candy buffet is that it doubles as a favor. But they’re becoming really popular and a s’mores bar just sounds so cool. I don’t know what to choose.

Personally I think smores are pretty messy to eat, so I wouldn’t want to have them when I was dressed up. Of course lots of people love them and would just eat them anyway.

Smores sound fun but messy. I mean, I don’t think that would stop me at a wedding, but some people might be more concerned. Both sound good though!

Is your wedding outdoors? Because smores at an indoor wedding would be kind of out of place. I’ve never really felt the urge to eat them other than when out camping!

@miss_scarlet: It would be partially both. There will be an inside area along with a tent setup outside. I would put the smores bar outside and candy bar inside. I just thought it would be something fun that people could do while out in the tent area. I definitely didn’t think about how messy some people might think it is. We’ll have about 400 guests, and about 150 of them will be college aged if that changes anyones opinion.

I adore s’mores but would feel weird eating them at a wedding… sooooo messy, especially if I’m in formal clothes.

I would say do both if you can :). The candy bar is sort of a favor, and the smores are an in-the-moment treat. Since you can take the candy home, I don’t think you’ll have to worry about a sugar overload.

Ok I see what you are saying. Then I say both! Especially since you have such a large wedding, it makes sense to have lots of options.
For the mess factor, could you have them pre assembled and mini sized? so they are bite sized and cute, rather than big and messy?

I want to do a s’mores bar if my venue allows it and am thinking about leaving these little towelettes or something like this holder. It would help you avoid the mess.

@amanda06: LOVE the towelette holder! I am definitely doing that if I stick with the smores bar
@miss_scarlet: having them pre assembled is a good idea, I’ll look into it and see what my different options are. Thanks for the advice!

I may be biased because we’re doing a s’mores bar, but I definitely vote for the messy chocolatey s’mores! We’re doing a twist with gormet s’more recepies including grasshopper smore (using andes mint chocolate), oreo s’mores (cookies and creme chocolate with chocolate graham crackers and a touch of sea salt), etc. It can be a lot of fun. It may be messy but I think people will be excited to try a new twist on something they already know and love. 🙂

I’ve never seen a smores bar before. I think thats a cute and different idea!

Darn it! Are s’mores becoming “a thing” at weddings now? Our venue has a fire pit and as soon as we saw it, we both said “s’mores!” at the same time. If this becomes as trendy as a candy buffet, I’m going to be so bummed!
