Have not done either, nor have I been to a wedding with either. But I'd like to ask about logistics about the smores bar- will you have multiple flames for people to roast marshmellows? I'm just thinking the smores bar (although it would be my preference) has alot more logistical things to deal with.
smores are great but i think it goes better with a fall or winter wedding.
Honestly, a s'mores bar sounds delicious!!! And I think it works seasonally, because I always have s'mores when I am at campfires during the summer! For me, s'mores = summertime.
If I were a guest at your wedding, I would be SO. EXCITED.
I love the smores idea!! I think a chocolate fondue bar would be fun too. Just melted chocolate with fruit and sticks to dip into the fondue... yum!!
SMORES!! Um, can I come to your wedding and have some? That's such a great idea!
I'm partial to the smores bar, probably because I'm doing it myself! I showed the below photo to my caterer and she knew exactly what she's going to do with it to make my smore bar happen.
On the other side, I think the candy bar could accomodate a lot more tastes and would probably be less messy. But, when it comes down to it, I think between collecting and buying the candy, it could be more time consumming and more costly.
For smores, most caterers have a sterno or something to give off heat and can easily get marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate bars.

Smores sound more appetizing. The majority of people tend to prefer that over candy. You can walk into any store and get candy whenever you want but smores are considered a "luxury" food, even though they are very simple to make.
Wow that is beautiful @LadyGoodman I'm using that as my inspiration now!!
LadyGoodman you just totally sold me on the Smores bar!!! I Love it!!!
Thanks everyone! I showed it to my caterer, her eyes lit up and she said that it was no problem! So, I think if anyone is considering doing one, to ask your caterer and see what they say. Not only are smores awesome, but they're cheaper than cake :)
i love, love s'mores. but, i would be worried that guests would be huddled around the flames and cooking rather than spending time on the dance floor. a candy buffet is easier and less work/time-intensive for guests.

We are having a wedding next June on the water of long island sound in Connecticut. I love our venue and know I want to do some kind of dessert bar but we can't decide between a candy bar or a smores bar. Any advice from people who are or hav done either?
