My favorite post workout snack is apple slices with peanut butter.
An apple! Fruits and veggie is always a great snack after a workout. But an apple helps me feel full.
Something with a bit of protein in it will help you build muscle. Apple with peanut butter, an egg, or some nuts.
I've recently heard that chocolate milk is best for after workouts. I know it sounds ridiculous, but hey, it's an excuse to drink chocolate milk!

You should snack on something with protein (I usually Shred right *before* dinner so that I don't have to think too much about it ;). A hard-boiled egg is a GREAT post-workout snack--very few calories, very high in protein.
I work out before dinner (or breakfast) to avoid this! But I agree with others that an apple would be okay, or a small glass of fat free/lowfat chocolate milk.
I agree with @lilyfaith! I always have an apple and sometimes some peanut butter
You're probably not eating enough for dinner. perhaps you should add some more protein to your dinner so you can last the entire night.
Water has 0 calories, is good for you, and will fill your stomach after the workout.
I think it's a good idea to have a little protein after your workout--apple with peanut butter, cheese stick, almonds, etc. I have also read that drinking chocolate milk (low fat or fat free) post-workout actually helps you build muscle. I know all the UM football players do this, so I started doing it too.
I was going to suggest chocolate milk too, like lemilie & jessie!
My guy friends got me into it, they would drink a small jug after their workouts! I however stick with 1 cup! It repairs your muscles, provides you with carbs so you can metabolize something & it still helps hydrate you to replace sweat loss.
It beats out all the other sports drinks & other liquids... It's an excellent choice after a workout. :)
i'm always heated up so i enjoy an all-natural type of fruit juice popsicle. that is the most rewarding and delicous treat after a good work out!
Hmm, I was told to avoid fruits at night. Although they are healthy and provide natural sugars, it was said to me that they spike your blood sugar too much...not good especially at night. I would suggest a hard boiled egg like others have suggested.
You ABSOLUTELY need protein to rebuild your muscle. If you do shakes, you can have a protein shake, but otherwise, Jessie's suggestion of [half of] an apple, 2 tbs of peanut butter (or a handful of almonds), and a cheese stick is perfectly balanced. Peanut butter alone (with your apple) isn't enough protein. :)
really, due to the sugar and the carbs, apples are not supposed to be a part of your diet after 1200 noon if you are trying to lose. I usually go for a protein shake right after a work out which usually holds me over utnil my next meal. Or, I make 2 egg whites, 2 slices of canadian bacon and put it in a little sandwich pocket thing
I'm another one that has an apple with Peanut butter as a snack, but I workout during the day. I just started doing 30 Day Shred, too. I do a regular gym workout in the am and Shred in the afternoon.
I mix a whey protein shake. I can't have milk, so I mix it with water. Kinda grody, but it does the job.
definitely protein-- a handful of almonds are my favorite! You're also burning calories right after your workout, so if you snack on something post-workout, you'll still be burning off some of those calories (that always makes me feel better about snacking post-workout). Don't forget to hydrate, too!!
I have always thought that protein was the way to go, for a post-workout snack. I've never heard of chocolate milk but cannot wait to read the article and see!
RICE CAKES!!!! They are nothing, like, just air, but they really fill you up because they are crunchy and rice expands in your stomach! Best snack ever :)
celery sticks with low fat cream cheese - yummy!
and did you know you burn calories actually eating celery? It is counted as 0!!
OoO look at allt he ideas! Chocolate milk of all things
However I will say that we tend to grossly overestimate how many calories we burn during working out so be cautious regarding how many extra calories you consume because you're hungrier now, post-workout. You can pretty much negate what you just accomplished!
I was told it's better to fuel up throughout the day in general. Your body will adjust if you put it on a schedule and if you hold out a little bit, you'll find that you don't get ravenous at the times you used to. I'm trianing my body to NOT get hungry 8 times a day, but down to 5. Nobody needs to eat 8x/day...it's overkill. 5-6 is ideal. You're supposed to taper off in the evening (protein and veggies only, which means fruit is a no no but things like edamame and chicken are in. Or low-sodium rotisserie turkey deli slices).

Hi ladies! I just started doing the 30 day shred and I do it at night after dinner. When I get done though, I am ravenous again and I want something with substance.
What snack can I have that will help me feel full and not negate the workout?
Thanks!
