I FINALLY went to a gym and signed up!  I'm going next week for my first time, and they're going to show me how to use the different weights and machines.  I also signed up for eight personal training sessions!  Operation Down Two Sizes by July is on!!

SO I need new sneakers.  We moved, and I purged a lot of shoes, including my only pair of shoes with semblance to sneakers (Saucony Jazz).  But the selection of sneakers is totally overwhelming me!

Does anyone have any good gym sneaker reccomendations?  Also, I'd be great if they work well for walking, too, because I'm going to try to get out and walk a lot more.

I've worn Earth Shoes before, when I was standing up a lot, and I loved them, so I was thinking of Earth Shoe sneakers...

    Or these New Balance.

I'd probably recommend cross trainers for you. Unless you're going to do a lot of running, they'll be your most versatile option. And go to a sporting goods store to try them on - it's really important to fit them correctly. A lot of shoes don't fit my arch quite right, or are too wide for my feet. For cross-trainers, I have a pair of New Balance. And I'm a Saucony girl for my running shoes.

I agree w/Goldilocks...if you're not planning on doing a lot of running look into the crosstrainer.  And the brand is jsut a personal preference but I'm an adidas girl for my running shoes.  I haven't had crosstrainers in while though.  You'll need to just go and try them on because they all fit differently.

Congrats on getting to the gym!  Way to go!

They were advertising these new New Balance shoes that were made for GYM CLASSES! I am pumped. They apparently offer more side to side support than traditional running shoes and are very light. They're blue/purpley or something. I have a picture of them at home. But I take classes, spin, use the elliptical, and am always worried about my ankles (and i tend to strain that muscle under my foot, too!) so these sounded ideal for me! If you're interested, PM me to remind me and I"ll be sure to look for the ad when I get home. I saved it for myself =]

I bought these after i posted about needing a new shoe. Love em! Especially for running, but they are also light weight to wear @ gym and on machines.

I'm interested in seeing suggestions, too! I just started working out as well.

If you've had a pair of Sauconys that fit you well and felt comfortable, I would recommend staying with that brand! The Hurricane is a great shoe and although it's expensive, you can often find last year's model on discount shoe websites...

I like www.efootwear.com, they have the Ride, the Triumph, the Hurricane, the Omni and a few others from Saucony...

Personally, Asics are my faves but everyone's foot is a bit different so you kind of have to decide for yourself what fits and feels best!
