I think it's completely fine for a bride to wear comfy sneakers underher dress, but not a man!
You cannot see a brides shoes, but the men, you see them! I would not accept anyone in sneakers!
I think it goes to personal style & preference. If the men are in tails-- then sneakers might not work lol! Ultimately, I think your wedding should be yours. So many weddings are cookie-cutters, what a cute way to infuse your wedding with a little personality.
It may seem like everyone is doing it, but thats because we're always checking out wedding sites, etc... most of your guests probably haven't seen it before so it would be new & unique to them!
For the record though: my groom will be wearing dress shoes. He rarely wears running shoes outside of the gym :)
I voted for dress shoes. However, it really depends on the bride and groom's wishes I think. It is *their* wedding, and as a member of the WP, you should not draw attention away from them.
I don't know what my guys are wearing, but I told FI I don't want them renting uncomfortable shoes. I'd rather they wear shoes they already have or buy shoes they will be comfortable in. No point spending all day miserable because your feet hurt.
We're doing things a little different- my FI is wearing sneakers (black chuck taylors) and the groomsmen are wearing dress shoes. That's just his style and I think it'll look cute for him. He also wanted to look significantly different from the groomsmen. I guess it just depends on your personal style :)
I always like the pics of the groom wearing chuckies that match his tie or whatever, but we won't be going that far at my own wedding. Dress shoes it is!
Unless this is an extremely casual wedding, I would say "no" to the tennis shoes. You still want everyone to look classy...you don't want to look back on photos in 10 years, and regret allowing them to wear whatever. =)
I would love for my fiance to wear dress shoes - and I think he wants to. However he and some of his groomsmen have feet/ankle issues and they just won't be able to stand for 7 hours in dress shoes. So that's that! :) I think they'll all look handsome regardless of what is on their feet!
I understand about comfort...I def do because this bride will be wearing flat dress shoes...considering Im 6 ft tall! And I just asked my dad the other day if he wants to wear a tux or a suit and he said he will wear whatever I want him to! But he said he has problems with his feet and wont be able to wear dress shoes so he will probably find a nice pair of black sneakers. And Im fine with black sneakers...and any kind if thats for comfort or even if thats your style. I just havent caught on to the trend of the chucks I guess!! I just think they stand out too much and your looking at their feet instead of them. Just me!!!
my FI is so excied about his gift to his groomsmen: Black canvas Vans. and he'll be doning some White ones. but our wedding is more of a casual one (the guys are wear a shirt/tie/dress slacks). it doesn't bother me at all, its actually pretty cute to see him so excited about the guys' attire! but really, i think it all depends on the style of the wedding and your FI's personality. do what you want...its your wedding!
Thats right KTBabe!! And im glad to hear that your groom is excited about it! And your wedding style sounds nice and casual. I think when its casual or even on the beach or something like that then I think the vans or chucks would look cool. But ive seen pictures where it looked like a formal wedding and the bridesmaids were in really pretty dresses and high heels and then the guys were in tux and chucks! I just didnt understand how the girls had to be in high heels and dressed to the nines and the guys got to wear chucks! But do what you want is right...its your wedding and everyone has their own style and I think thats what rocks about weddings...its your wedding and you can make it anything you want!!! :) Thanks for all the responds...thats why I love the hive!
My FI will be wearing Converse on our wedding day. He's very non-traditional and despises dress shoes...so Converse it is. :) It was one of my concessions. I was becoming quite bridezilla-y so I decided to let him choose his shoes and stop demanding that all decisions be MINE! :) Either way, it's a personal decision.
My hubby and all his friends grew up skateboarding and they all pretty much have the same style so for the wedding, the groom and all the groomsmen wore black DC sneakers. I wasn't too excited about it at first but I actually loved it when I finally saw them with it all together. I'm adding a pic so everyone can see how it turned out.
I like the look of dress shoes on men better. Well, actually I like the look of shoes that go with the outfit he is wearing. If that's a tux or suit, then dress shoes. But if he's in khakis and a button-down shirt on the beach, then flip flops would totally work.
The difference is that when the bride wears funky shoes, usually they are a "secret" detail, something you don't notice unless she purposefully shows them to you. But on a groom/smen, the footwear will be in full display in every way. You have to be really committed to that detail choice and not just do it on a whim because it will be very prominent. So it's not that it's a wrong choice to choose chucks and a tux, not at all, just that it's an important one.

Is it just me or have I not caught on to the sneaker trend for grooms and groomsmen? I love that people have their own style and that everyone has their own unique wedding...but now its not unique any more because I see it every where! And I like the color ribbons and such in the white wedding gowns so Im not fully traditional...but I guess in some ways I am! Rock your sneakers! Or Rock your dress shoes!
