I work at a school and am fortunate to get the occasional snow day. My SO, however, almost always has to work regardless (he’s a little jealous, which I would be too if it were reversed). I am wondering if your job ever gives you snow days?

Nope. We get Hurricane Days!

Most of the time we’re told to “use our best judgement”. But a couple of years ago I had a whole three weeks off due to our major snowstorm. And that was AWESOME.

I live in NYC and transit shuts down with very severe weather- so yes! We get snow days. And hurricaine days.

@kyra.astell: no way. I live somewhere it snows a TON, so it’s just business as usual here. Occassionally if a big storm hits/is on the way, a lot of places will close or send people home early to try and beat it. I know last year there was a huge storm with like ZERO visibility because it was snowing so bad.

Yup. I’ve had probably 4 in the past errr… 8 years or so. I work in an office. At one point I lived the furthest away and could barely make it onto the main road. I called and said F this so the boss called everyone off.

@kyra.astell: 2 years ago I had a snow day at BOTH of my jobs. I was working 60+ hours a week and every day of the week at the time so I didn’t know what to do with myself! We got like 2+ feet of snow overnight and when I woke up the plows hadn’t been able to keep up to get everything cleared away so both jobs called me and told me not to come in! I would have been severally late if they hadn’t from trying to dig out my car anyway!

I never got snow days unless it was like a snow-pocalypse, and even then it was only a one hour delay.
I remember one time it started icing REALLY badly while at work. And I couldn’t even open the door to my car to drive home because it was iced shut.
My DH on the other hand is a lucky duck! His boss goes with whatever the county school says. So he gets off pretty easily. Sometimes though they make him work from home when that happens.

The non-profit I work for operates on the juvenile court’s schedule, so if they get a snow day, we get a snow day. But that only happens if it’s a legit blizzard. Last year, during Nemo, we got one.

Yes. In 2010 I got an entire week off for a blizzard. I work on an army base and if the base closes my office is closed. Last year I think we got 1 snow day. We also get delayed openings and early closings depending on the weather.
I think in 2011 we also got off a day or two for a hurricane.

@kyra.astell: We got one here exactly once, but that’s because our front door looked like this:
It would have taken me all day to dig myself out of our parking lot at home to even have a HOPE of driving to work lol

Our office rarely closes due to weather, but I live outside of town, where we get significantly more snow, so my bosses are really great about letting me stay home or go home early if the weather is very nasty.

Lucky! Nope. It’s currently -10 F (-21C or something) and it snowed a foot last night, but definitely no snow day. Even when it snows 2 feet, we work.
And the schools hardly EVER shut down! i had one snow day in High school and it was because it literally snowed 4+ feet overnight.

@lolot: I live in Colorado Springs and it’s not quite that cold nor did we get that much snow, but we’re off today. Us Front Range people apparently don’t do well with snow 🙂 I’m surprised your schools don’t have more days off.

Yes, sometimes. We had two in February on a Friday and the following Monday. Nice long weekend! Some years, nothing. Usually it has to do with a lot of snowing that occurs overnight and during early morning hours, making getting around in the AM bad.
I work/worked for the state and they do close offices. I work for a university (state) so they do snow days.
