Yeah, I can’t believe it. I fell in love with this photographer. They would have been able to travel to do our pictures, they are really fun, and they take great photos. I e-mailed them to set up a date. We’re getting married June 23rd, 2012…and they are ALREADY BOOKED! Ahhh!! I was hoping I was early enough, but not so much. That is the only wedding they have booked for 2012.
I have to admit, I got a little frustrated at my FI. He seems to think we can wait until less than a year beforehand to book anything. I was nice when I told him, though. I said that they were already booked, and he was shocked. I just said, “I’m not trying to be mean, but this is why I wanted to start getting things booked early. It’s not the end of the world, but do you understand where I’m coming from now?” He did apologize, and we’re going to start our search again.
The good thing is that there are a lot of awesome photographers, this was probably just a fluke. It’s still frustrating, but I know that I will find a great photographer soon.

Well, could you move the date? You are pretty far out there 🙂

this might turn out to be a blessing in disguise — you could find someone you like even more!

Say WHAT?! Haha I better get the ball rolling! 😉
We’re in the middle of meeting with photogs now, guess I should hurry up! My FI had the same reaction as yours did, he didn’t know what the rush was about… I said, that’s nice that you want to wait hunny, but get in the car we’re meeting with a venue in a half hour. It worked. 😀
Good luck… I’m sure you’ll find someone who you love just as much.

That happened to us, too. One of my top choices (and my Mom’s absolute favorite) was booked for our date thirteen months out. Are you in the SF Bay Area by any chance? I have found people around here are nuts about booking things ahead of time.
Don’t worry – just because one person is booked super early doesn’t mean other people are. Even in our area where I’ve found people are absurdly early about stuff, most photographers were pretty clear a year or so out. I’m sure you just hit a fluke just like we did – and I’m so so psyched about the person we ended up using.

Is your date set in stone? Could you move it?

I think at this point you could either move your wedding date to accommodate for the photographer or you could find an even better photographer!

All very good suggestions :-). We thought about moving the date, but we decided that having our date was more important than having that photographer. A friend recommended hers, and we have a meeting set up. I’ve looked at their work online and I am really looking forward to meeting with them!
Hearing that the photographer was booked was a bummer, but it definitely wasn’t the end of the world. I’ll just keep on researching!

Can I ask who you were hoping to book? I’m getting married in Chicago, too, and I can’t believe photographers are booking up for 2012 already! I feel behind!

The same thing happened to me! I feel like my date is so far away, but vendors are actually booking in 2012! Maybe if you email the photographer you wanted, the could reccomend someone sililar to them you could check out.

Sorry to hear about that. My FI is the same way. I’ve been on him lately about calling about a venue that only does maybe 2 weddings a year and he does seem to get it. The photographer I wanted to book has gone up on his prices by about 300%! So I kinda understand. That photographer might could suggest some for you to help out on that search. Good luck!

it’s tough…. when the one you love is booked, did you ask them to maybe refer you to someone they know, it may help b/c you may find they refer you to someone w/ the same style ….

I would definitely contact the photographer of your dreams again and ask if s/he has any suggestions for a photographer that is similar in style. They should have a network of referrals to share with you. 😀 Good luck!

I know how you feel. We started planning our August wedding just a couple of weeks ago, and venues and photographers are all booked. Good thing we are on a Sunday so there are still a lot left.
Don’t worry. I agree about the blessing in disguise. You’ll find someone you love maybe more!

We actually found someone that we loved even more than the original person, so it worked out well! FI was in town for the holidays (yes…I’m late posting this reply :-)). We ended up booking them in early January.
@tee22: I’m using Zettl Photography. They do work in Chicago, too! They take amazing pictures. They’ve won a ton of awards, they did a lot of the pictures for the St. Louis bridal magazine…I’m really pleased with them! A friend of mine is using them in October and recommended them to me. If you haven’t found someone yet, I recommend them!
