The powerhouse in Del Mar, CA is a great location, and pretty cheap (I think it was around $2,000 for an entire day of use, but they also had an hourly rate that would cut that down). There are also free permits to get married in the park adjacent to the powerhouse. It’s all directly on the beach/water, in a stunning neighborhood of San Diego. They had tables included, and you can bring in whatever catering you want (so you can save $$$ there!). I’d check it out. We almost did that, but ended up going with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (quite a bit pricier, but stunning as well).

Where exactly are you located? Have you checked local parks for the ceremony and community centers for the reception? Most restaurants have catering that is cheaper and tastier than regular caterers.

Where in So Cali are you looking?  LA area, San Diego area, or OC area???  Not sure how many guests you are having…I am from outside of LA and there is a really neat venue kind of hidden in the hills that has become quite popular. I don’t know what their rates are but its called La Venta, http://www.laventa.com    Good Luck Wink
