Hello everyone. I am asking again for advice because so far I have received awesome advice from a lot of you before. Here goes:
I am getting married on the beach at a beachfront hotel and the reception will be indoors in one of their ballrooms. I am getting married in April so I was thinking of placing buri fans on the chairs at the ceremony just to help keep people cool. Also, my color theme is tiffany blue and sand colors so for the escort cards I was going to use an idea I saw online of white finger starfish with the guests’ name and table # and I was going to place them in a tiffany blue box I found filled with sand.
Now I have had several people tell me already either the buri fans or starfish can be considered a favor the guests can take home, but I am confused as to using these as favors or if I should have something else entirely different as a favor. I don’t want people to be having to hold so many little things with them but at the same time, I love the fans and the escort card ideas and really want to use them. Sorry if I have confused any of you, but as you can tell I am a bit confused myself…lol.
I appreciate any thoughts.

I’m sure they could pass as favors but in my experience, something edible is normally preferred over anything else. Have you considered a candy or dessert/cookie buffet? I know they seem overdone in the wedding world but I think guests genuinely enjoy them.

I don’t think the starfish would be considered a favor. The fan certainly could be as long as you don’t have your program printed on it. I am sure your guests will appreciate the fan if it is warm.
Your guests will not be holding too many things at the same time. They will only have the fan at the ceremony. They may carry it to the reception. There they will pick up their starfish and likely place it on the table at their seat.
Having said that, I am not a big believer in favors. You certainly don’t have to have a favor at all, or anything in addition to the fan. You can if you wish.

@browneyedgrl76: As the PP’s said, most guests prefer something that is edible or nothing at all. I probably wouldn’t add anything else (unless it’s food).

I wrote this post 3x and for whatever reason it kept disappearing.
Anyways, I think something edible would be great as well.
What about cookies or mini pales/buckets with something edible in them?
