Ha you're not odd. While I did not go out and specifically buy a toothbrush. I have one from the dentist that I use for cleaning my jewelery, not just my e ring.
No. Not to say I wouldn't have, but I have a toddler, so we had a lot of extra baby toothbrushes in the bathroom anyway.
Phew! I was scared that my grown-up toothbrush might damage it, although Mr Jewellery Man said it wouldn't, that's why I bought a baby one... I'm just glad to know that I'm not alone! lol
The ring cleaner that I bought came with a little brush inside....so that's how I got mine! You're not weird. :)
Y'all are going to think I'm gross, but I just took one of FI's after he was done using it to switch for a new one. He uses extra-super-soft toothbrushes because of canker sores, and I made sure to wash/sanitize it as best I could before using it on my ring. Now it lives in the shower so I can clean my ring whenever I need to. Works just fine for me :P
haha this thread is funny! It totally made me go and get my ring toothbrush and clean my ring
@Kant: your not gross..mine is an old toothbrush too!
I cleaned my ring's teeth this morning - she is shining away! Yey! :-)
I'm a dental hygienist and I 100% clean ALL my jewellery with an extra soft toothbrush! How else are you going to get into all the nooks and crannies!?
@Cariad: I wouldn't use baking soda though, I just use a little jewellery cleaner. Baking soda itself can wear the enamel off your teeth when used regularly over time, so depending on the metals used in your ring, it may do the same to it.
I voted for "no you freak" but I don't really think you're a freak.
I just use the brush that came with my jewelry cleaner but I would totally would have done the same!
No, but then again I didn't need it. The jeweler gave me the red jar of Connoisseurs jewelry cleaner and that comes with a little brush.
I don't use a toothbrush because in my opinion, even the soft ones are too rough for cleaning! I had a kit of makeup brushes and kept one specificially for cleaning my e-ring. It is about the diameter of a pencil and comes to a tapered point, so it's really easy to get in the nooks and crannies of my ring, plus it is made of natural bristles so it bends really easily and I don't worry about it damaging anything.
But no, you're not weird for going out and getting a separate cleaning brush! Haha
I bought a baby toothbrush with a suction cup on the end. I keep it "stuck" to the kitchen sink. About once a week, when doing the dishes, I just use the toothbrush and a little dish soap to give it a quick scrub.
the cleaner that my jewler gave me came with a mini toothbrush, so I just use that (I voted Other)
Like PPs, I use the brush that came with my jewelry cleaner. However, I have been meaning to pick up a baby toothbrush for those times I do a deep clean in hot water, Windex and Dawn. I may have to do that today!
I'm a jeweler and trust me, a toothbrush will NOT damage a diamond - even a full-strength grown-up toothbrush! I recommend my customers use old toothbrushes instead of the tiny brushes that come in jewelry cleaner, toothbrushes are MUCH more effective.
I've always had a children's toothbrushDior cleaning my rings. After they are super sparkly, yaaaay!
I bought a jewelry cleaner from a local place near me and it comes with a tiny little brush
@tonights: I'm a jeweler and trust me, a toothbrush will NOT damage a diamond -
thank you for this! every time I see a post about somebody freaking out over something like a toothbrush damaging their ring I roll my eyes. I mean, think about it: if a toothbrush could damage your ring, then it is definitely not strong enough to be worn on your finger every day!
I use a soft toothbrush and half Mr. Clean, half water to clean my ring! Shines it up beautifully! (plus I know it's safe for my ring since my jeweler reccomended it!)
People aren't worried about damaging the diamonds. They are worried about scratching/scuffing the gold, especially if it's 18k, or wearing off the rhodium plating on the white gold.
I would've if I didn't have a ton of spares from dentist visits over the years!
@mmsva: I bought one of those too! My hubs asked me what I was doing with a baby toothbrush and laughed at me when I said it was for my rings.
I have just used old tooth brushes or the brush that comes with the jewelry cleaner.
LOL! NO! But the jewelry cleaner I bought at Nordstrom is a bottle with a built in scrubby brush that looks like a mini toothbrush.
Yes and no.
Long ago, I bought a super-soft toothbrush for another ring that FI got me, pre-engagement ring.
I lost that one, so I did buy another one not soon after I got my engagment ring.
The jeweler also gave me a sonic cleaner that I use occasionally.
(I recently came into owning a ring that was FI's grandmother's, and it was caked with hand cream... I was glad for the toothbrush!)
Yup. Jeweler told me to let my ring soak in solution of half hot water and half windex, usually while I'm in the shower. After, I take it out and scrub with soft toothbrush and rinse with hot water and blowdry. The same night FI proposed, I went and bought a soft toothbrush and an extra large bottle of Windex. =)
I totally did. It's a pink and purple baby toothbrush with the Littlest Pet Shop on it. Haha.
@goldenapple82: Pardon, I missed a word. Meant to say "a toothbrush will not damage a diamond ring." My ring is 18k and I use a stiff toothbrush to clean it when I'm at home - and at the store, besides the high powered steam and the ultrasonic, we have a tremendous toothbrush-looking thing we sometimes use as well. So there is really no need to fret. :)
A better caution would be to never clean your ring with bleach or ammonia. You can't believe how many people do that and have their settings crumble eventually.

When I went to get my e-ring fitted when I first got it, the jeweller advised me to keep it sparkly by washing it with a lttile baking soda and a soft toothbrush. So I went out an bought a baby's toothbrush. When I mentioned this to my friends they all found it totally hilarious!
Am I Odd????
