I'm reading Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang right now and the chapter about Cabbage Patch Dolls got me reminiscing.
I had a brown eyed, brown haired doll with dimples and a tooth. Her name was Esmeralda and I loved her to death. I got her when I was pretty little so I always pronounced her name wrong, I call her Elsmeralda and carried her everywhere I went for longer then I care to admit.
This picture isn't my doll but it is identical to my Els.
So did you have one? Did it look like you? Oh and if you haven't read Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang you need to. You will laugh your butt off!

Heck ya, and still do! My grandmother worked at a store that sold them and bought them for all the girls the year they were popular. I was alittle older, but I keep it because it still smells like her house, I just loved the smell of my grandmas house.
I never had one, I remember wanting one cause TV make me believe my life will be better, but it was too expensive for us. I had a cute non-brand doll anyways =P.
I got one the year they came out -1984 (I'm pretty sure). I know it was the year they came out because it's a big joke in my family that my mom got into this huge fight with another mom at Toys R Us over the last doll and won. She's normally so calm but it was apparently an all out brawl. Emmy Nicole. I have a picture of us dressed alike and I was walking her in a stroller. Ok, maybe my mom was a little weird...
@tksjewelry: I still have her somewhere, I think she is my Dad's attic. I should go find her!
@Coffee cup: I felt that way about Teddy Ruxpin! I wanted one so bad but never got one.
My aunt bought me one after I broke my finger... I was so excited and even though my finger hurt like crazy I thought it was worth it to finally get a cabbage patch doll ;)
I had several and LOVED them! My favourite though was my very first, which was one of the originals that had the baby powder smell to them. Susan Elinor - still have her somewhere in my parents' house!
@ananeele: It was right around that time, maybe 1983, as my mom waited in line for hours to get one but Toys R Us was only allowing one per person and mom had two little girls (I was 4, my sister was 5) so she begged and pleaded and the salesperson finally let her purchase two.
I did used to love it soooo much! Here's me when I was 6 with it :-)

@Misshotsauce: THAT IS AWESOME!! What is up with the front row? Why do so many have the girl with the dragon tattoo mohawk/weird hair thing going on? (Is it a new trend or did you like to play beauty parlor with your dolls? I played Dr. Mine all have bandages on them)
Of course! My aunt worked part time at Toys R Us and I actually got one before they actually went on the shelves! I even had birthday parties for her on the birthday that came on her birth certificate!
Definitely did!! She's still somewhere in storage. Her name was Pamela Nicole, but I nicknamed her Pami...
I hated mine.
My aunt in NC sent me one made completely of fabric before they hit the mainstream. She said women in her town were sewing them for a guy's business. It was signed on it's behind or foot (I don't remember). I thought it was the most hideous doll I had ever seen.
Another aunt gave me a koosa (the animal ones) later on and I didn't like that thing, either.
I got a Madame Alexander baby doll and that was the only doll I liked. I loved her!
I did! I have two actually. One was a girl with blonde pigtails (don't remember her name). The other one was a little baby bold, bald, his name was Irvin. Too funny!
no, I never had one! :( we were talking about this at work a few weeks ago
@Misshotsauce: Omg that is creepy! I don't remember if I had one. I'll have to ask my mom...
Yep I had one in fact she looks exactly like yours OP, her name was Dolly Gerry but I had it changed to Annie Marie. My brother had a baby one with bald head named Willie. I have them both still for my niece who is 2 she loves playing with them
Remember how hard their heads were? I used to swing my doll and hit my brother with it. LOL
@Misshotsauce: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!
I think we had 11 and two cabbage patch dogs? I forgot what they were called, they were weird. I had 2 preemies and I also had one with "real" hair that I could wash! Also, I had one with weird starchy hair that could hold a crimp or a curl and it came with a little crimper and curler (no heat of course)!
@couawilou: Awwwww!
Yep. I sure did. I had at least two. I don't remember what they look like or what they were named, but I remember having them.
DH says this was the guys version of the cabbage patch doll:

CREEPY
Nope, I never had one! I dont think I ever even wanted one. I always thought they were weird looking and had other dolls that I loved
@bestbuddies: Garbage Pail Kids were gross, I remember the movie being creepy!
@JessesGirl: how do I not remember these? WEIRD! DH said his friends would play with them but they freaked him out ha!
@JessesGirl: I so had a cabbage patch doll. Cant remember if I had more than one or not but oh yea I did. It's somewhere in my parents attic :) it'll be fun to go thru that stuff one day!
@JessesGirl: yes, there were! and stickers too! The same company that does baseball cards did those cards....ha!
I'll have to look into the book!
Cabbage patch dolls and anything Miss Piggy really scared me when I was little. What a wuss. I had to miss out on those boats. They look cute to me now.
I was about 8 or 9 when they first came out. oh, memories!! I was sad because I really wanted a girl doll (with hair) and I never got one.
I eventually ended up with a few, including a homemade one (which had a scary face, IMO) and....remember Koosa? the ones that looked like cats and dogs? I had a yellow cat and I friggin loved it!
I had one that had glasses named Ella Iona. A friend's dog got ahold of her and ripped a spot on her back. I pretended she had a scar like me. :) She looked like this, but with glasses.

I had one but I don't remember how it looked like. I accidentally left it at a friend's house and then I moved. When we came back to visit, they tried to give it back but found out it was already packed and on it's way to Alaska.
Yes, I named it "Baby." Because I was just OH so darn creative. ;)
Also, Chelsea Handler books are AMAZING and hilarious!
I had one when I was like a year old. But, my dog got ahold of it and chewed her nose off.
Yes I had one! I had Fifi Roseanne, she was had shoulder length black straight hair and I used to take her everywhere with me!
She is still at my parents house, mum saved her for me to pass on if I have kids :)
