- Wedding: September 2009
So lately I’ve just not been in the wedding planning mood. My DIY invitations are sitting half done. I can’t get motivated to figure out decorations for the hall. I haven’t even been on Weddingbee as much as usual. All wedding stuff lately has just been blah.
But…..not today! I am finally excited again! We found somewhere to have the ceremony! I know you are thinking, "This girl is crazy, she’s getting married in two months and just now found somewhere to get married???" A little backstory: From the beginning, my fiance and I have wanted to get married outside and we thought we should find some place where we could have the ceremony and the reception at the same place. So we looked at a few places. My favorite was an old barn and gazebo, but it was way out of our budget. We looked at a few other places and finally found a place to have the reception. They also have a big field with a old tree that sits apart from the tree line. So our thought was that we could get married there. And if it rained we would just get married in the reception hall (blech). End of story. I should also tell you that we live on a small lake that also happens to be a state park. I kept trying to think how we could get married here on the lake but there’s no gazebo and I didn’t want to get married on the very small beach (with a strong chance of traipsing through geese poo).
So today we went to a picnic on the other side of the lake. And they had the picnic in a shelter. And it wasn’t just your ordinary shelter, no siree! It’s big, it has big rustic timber beams, and it has a fireplace! And it only costs $40 to rent. And my FIL’s and my fiance love it too. It’s also right on the lake , and we are thinking that my dad and I can come over to the pavillon on our pontoon boat (there is a dock, I won’t be wading in the water!). So on Monday I’m going to call and reserve it. And stop back over there and take pictures. Because now I need some ideas on how to decorate it. I’d like to put some candles on the fireplace, but I will have to ask the park office if I can do that. We will need some seating for parents and older guests but since our ceremony is going to be relatively short (under a half an hour) I think the rest of the guests can stand. Is that bad to make them stand? We do not have any money in the budget to rent chairs. Does anybody have any other ideas for seating that’s super cheap (um make that free)? I will post pics to get some ideas after I take them tomorrow or Monday.
I got my wedding planning mojo back!
