Just to give you a bit of background, I purchased a home last year, moved in August 1st. This was purchased all on my own, the first home since my divorce almost 4 yrs prior to that. Based on the guidelines I would qualify for the first-time homebuyer’s tax credit because I hadn’t lived in a home that I owned for over 4 yrs. However…..there was a house that Ex-H and I owned together & rented out up until 2006, when we had to evict the renter & sell the home. Because of this, when I filed for my tax credit, they initially came back & told me I didn’t qualify because I claimed mortgage interest on my ’06 tax return. My response to this was that it was a rental home, and I had proof of it being rented out, and also my leases for the apartments I lived in during that time. I was told this should qualify me, because as long at it was not my PRIMARY residence that I owned, I was able to claim the credit. Yay!
In the meantime, Fiance & I got serious, he proposed in January, moved in with me in March. STILL waiting to see the credit………
I’ve called the IRS countless times, been assigned to a Tax Advocate to assist with this issue, written to the local Congressman for assistance. STILL waiting…..
I get a call this morning…….THEY ARE GOING TO ALLOW MY CREDIT, PLUS INTEREST!!!! AND I SHOULD HAVE PAYMENT WITHIN 30 DAYS!!!! YAY!!!
