Yay! That sounds soooo amaizing! Have fun and enjoy every minute of it.
That's awesome! Tell us everything! Do you have a blog or something where you talked about the process? We are almost certain we want to go to Africa, and I'd love to know more about how you decided where to go, what companies you used, what price ranges are reasonable, etc. Thanks! And congrats!
@All In: I don't have a blog but I'm happy to share whatever details you want. It's going to end up being a really expensive trip, but that is because we are going with a luxury tour company and we are having our own private safari vehicle the whole time.
@Gabrielle123: Oh we will. DH got a brand new camera and telephoto lens for the trip.
@Evie19: I will be sure to post "recaps" when I get back.
Yea! I try to convince DH we need to go on a safari every few months. Can't wait to see pics from your trip!
@LGenz: I will be sure to post pictures. Hopefully they may help convince your DH that you need to go on safari!
My FIL and his wife went on safari in South Africa last year and their photos were amazing.
That sounds AWESOME! I'm sure you guys are going to have a great time!
I spent about a month there a few years ago, its amazing and you will love it.
I have ONE piece of advice though - get used to "Africa time" pretty much as soon as you get there- anything you have scheduled (including the flights from mainland to Zanzibar and drivers for tours) will likely be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours late. It became almost a little funny seeing some tourists totally lose their shit when things ran late - but, thats just how it goes there, so just relax and go with it :)
Oh, and no matter what they tell you, the lions don't come out during the day - if you want to see the kitties, book a sunset or evening safari!! You will see TONS of giraffes and elephants during the day though.
@mandypop: That is funny about "Africa Time". We have a private safari car and driver for the whole trip so hopefully we won't have too much "Africa Time" to contend with. We are totally there to relax for sure so we will go with the flow and maybe have another drink while we wait.
Sunset or evening safari sounds awesome. We'll have to look into that.
That sounds totally awesome!! I am trying to fit a safari into our honeymoon but I don't know how that will work out with our flights. We're going to Mauritius so I'm hoping to get a flight that goes through Kenya or Tanzania.
Can't wait to see those pictures!! There is a blog post on Brooklyn limestone about her & her husband's trip to Africa for a safari trip, it might have some good info: http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/2010/08/jambo-amboseli.html#.TwMnhtSXQsI
@Ms. Martian: I hope you are able to fit it in. Your honeymoon sounds fantastic as well.
Thanks!
I'm mostly jealous that you get to say "Zanzibar" often.
That sounds amazing, enjoy every moment!
your post made me get all nostalgic and look through my Zanzibar pics. Here are a few:

Awesome!!!! Sounds amazing and hope you have a great time! Definitely can't wait to see pics!
@KristenGotMarried: Haha. I LOVE the word Zanzibar. I do take every opportunity I can to say it.
@mandypop: Those photos are awesome. How much of your trip did you spend in Zanzibar?
@.twist.: Thanks! I'll post pictures for sure.
Oh my goodness, girl. What an awesome honeymoon you have planned! It will be so worth your wait.
I'd love to do something like that, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get to. Savor every minute! :)
Just a couple of days - but its small, so you can see a lot in very little time. I was traveling with the World Health Organization on a medication distrubution program - so did a few days here and there in different areas of the country. All of it was incredible.
Speaking of medication - haha - if you plan to take the anti malarials, they gave me some WACKY vivid dreams, not bad really, but just ...odd, and very memorable. :P
Ohhhhhhh, my dream vacation!!!!!!!!!! (Top three anyways!) HAVE FUN, I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!!
Yay yay! We're doing South Africa, Tanzania and Zanzibar so I'm totally going to PM you for details. Congrats on booking!
So jealous!! An African safari is on my list of dream vacations that must be taken before I die.
I absolutely swooned over Mrs. Hamster's African honeymoon recaps and I can't wait to see yours!!
Wow, what an adventure that will be! And good for you being so patient.
@mandypop: Haha... I've taken them before. Thankfully didn't have weird dreams, but they made me feel a bit wonky.
@kate02121: PM'd you back.
@redheadem: The wait has been rough, but it'll be SO worth it!
My goodness, that sounds AMAZING! I am happy for you!

We got married in September and promptly moved to the UK so we didn't have time for a honeymoon right after the wedding.
Over the new year holiday we finalized all our plans for our honeymoon to Africa.
We leave mid February for a 15 day Tanzanian safari and beach vacation in Zanzibar.
I am so excited. This will be the trip of a lifetime and well worth the 4.5 month wait since the wedding.
