- Wedding: June 2012
I am so excited to finally be writing a post on the bee! I have been reading it ever since I helped a friend plan her wedding and I can’t tell you how happy I am to finally be able to read it as a future bride.
My FH and I have been talking about getting married for a while, but I honestly thought a proposal was still months away. Our anniversary is Cinco De Mayo, so we decided to go out with friends that night, and then do a romantic date night the next night. For our date, he took me to a restaurant on Brookside (a popular part of town with lots of restaurants and nightlife things). We had a great time talking about the past year and just being silly mostly. Several times he asked me what I wanted to do after dinner. One of my favorite things to do together is go for a walk and just talk. I suggested we do that by the river where we live. He was a bit hesitant about where I wanted to walk, but after a little persuading I got him to agree. I was completely oblivious a proposal was coming. He had just let me plan the rest of the night, so even the tiny feeling he may do it was gone.
I got the idea to get cards for our annivesary, so while we were walking I suggested we stop to read them. He instantly looked around where we were and said “You want to stop here…. by a statue of a man teaching his son how to fish across from the power plant?” Yep… thats exactly where I wanted to stop. We curled up on a bench and I gave him my card. I’m a pretty big sap, and very word, so I had written A LOT. When I opened his, all he had written was “I Love You”. Short, sweet and to the point (just one small thing I love about him). As I was closing the card he said “I didn’t write a lot because I think that my actions speak louder than words sometimes” and when I looked up at him he was holding out the ring. “Will you marry me?” Shocked, my response was very elequoent. “Seriously? Oh my gosh, are you being serious?” After he promised me, yes he was being serious, I gave him a huge yes and jumped on him. I later found out that he had planned to get down on one knee, but got nervous and forgot. Adorable.
Our proposal was so simple, sweet and so us. I literally can’t stop smiling.
