We got married at our honeymoon resort with just 4 guests in Mexico. We were there for 4 days before the wedding due to legal requirements & 4 after the wedding- but due to a canceled flight it ended up being another night. So a week total, then we flew to our families home state for a half week, but that was hardly honeymooning if ya know what I mean!

My brother in law & his wife’s honeymoon was only for 4 days, 3 nights & they went to Jamaica. They both said they were ready to get home & don’t know what they would have done if they stayed longer.

Our mini-moon was only a few days (4, I think).  But we delayed our real honeymoon trip by 6 months so that we could take a full 2 weeks!

Hi @lindseyl06:  After all the excitement that a Wedding generates (not to mention the work, and stress etc), I am a BIG Proponent of some sort of Honeymoon… in that a couple needs a getaway to be JUST Newlyweds and revel in that joy… as well as a spot of time to relax & recouperate.

In the very least a mini-moon of a couple of days… I could not imagine getting married one day, and going back to work the next.

And the BIGGER the Wedding, I believe the more time off the couple will need / deserve when all is said & done.

I think you’ll very much enjoy your planned mini-moon… just plan for something longer later on when you can (lots of Couples do that for their First Anniversary for example).

My First Wedding (circa 1980) and My Ex and I took a week (we were fresh faced Uni Grads starting our career), as that was all the time we could spare, in that we only got 2 weeks vacation annually.  We toured New England.

    This time round…

Mr TTR & I are semi-retired… so life is a lot different, and we are in a better spot financially as well.

We took off 5 Weeks in total for our Pre Wedding (Christmas Vacation) Trip – Destination Elopment – and Caribbean Honeymoon.

The “Honeymoon” portion was 2 weeks long… and included… time at our Destination Hotel where we were married – an Airport Hotel for our jump off city – 2 Nights in Romantic Old San Juan – and a Week on a Cruise thru the Southern Caribbean… then another Night in Southern Florida, and a few more on the way back to Canada (we drove)… including Savannah and Charleston (2 Southern Faves of ours)

Our Honeymoon was a dream once in a lifetime trip for sure… LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.

It all worked out as we wished… as Encores we CHOSE this time to not spend the money on a BIG White Pouffy Family Wedding, we instead put it into us… and were able to enjoy all this FABULOUS time away.  Soooo worth it, if someone is in a position where they can elope.

BEST vacation I’ve ever been on… and super-romantic.

    Hope this helps,

We left for our Honeymoon on Saturday night (our wedding day) and didn’t get back until the following Sunday late evening… so 7 FULL days and 8 nights, but we had a 12 hour flight both ways! I voted 7 days 6 nights though, as I think it is closer to accurate.

However, I wanted a summer wedding and honeymoon and DH wanted a summer wedding and a winter honeymoon, so we agreed we’d split our honeymoon time to go on two different trips that both he and I wanted. We’re going on the 2nd half of our “honeymoon” this winter, but I don’t really consider it a honeymoon at this point (we could have gone to Australia over the summer, but I really didn’t like our 12 hour flight so I couldn’t imagine the trip to Australia!)

@lindseyl06:  I put 5 days in the poll but in actuality we got an extra night (not that it was fun) because there was a storm near home and our flight was cancelled.  I can’t be away from real life (and my pets!) any longer than that.

We went to Europe for almost 3 weeks.  But my husband wouldn’t get married until we could afford the trip of a lifetime for a honeymoon – which it was.

I love hearing the stories of the 3 week honeymoons. I can’t wait until my husband and I can go on a trip of that magnitude. That is how I want to do Europe and Australia/New Zealand!

We went to a B&B in St. Augustine to get married on a Friday and left Sunday morning for Pigeon Forge, TN. We were going to stay a week, but I got cabin fever and we left Wednesday/Thursday morning? lol I was ready to GO!

We now go on weeklong cruises and little trips, but we need to buy a house!

We were gone for eight days. But I know my honeymoon would have still been totally amazing had it been shorter. You’ll be in the honeymoon bubble no matter how long your trip is! Enjoy hun!
