I'm serious. It's really awful. I just cannot sleep. Maybe I'll doze off for like 2 hours and I'll be up again just laying there trying to sleep ...

So last night was my 4th night in a row that I could not sleep more than 2 hrs and I had it ... so I have an apt. tomorrow to see what the dr. thinks I should do.

I tried some herbal thing that is supposed to help you sleep but it didn't work! The thing is ... I'm not even nervous during the day - just at night when I'm supposed to sleep. Weird.

    Any tips?

Oh no! I hate not being able to sleep! I've been the same way recently. Have you trided: Sleepy time tea? A hot bath? Aromatherapy lotions (like lavender)? I hope you get some rest soon. :)

Ugh, that's horrible!  I'd try to do all the home remedies before trying anything too drastic.  Is your head racing when you do lay down?  I have those kinds of nights every once in awhile, its the worst!  I hope it gets better :)

Dude, you need your sleep! For me, it always seems that the more aware I am of how much sleep I'm missing out on... the less I can sleep.

Tylenol PM. For 10 days you could take one every night and you should be fine. Do it.

Hmm, I used to have insomnia and have tried a few things.  Things that have helped me are: dimming the lights about an hour before bed, working out in the evening versus the morning (studies have proven the optimal work out time is about 5:30 PM as your body is ready for sleep a few hours afterward), massage, hot shower or bath before bed, heat pad or "bed buddy" on your neck before bed, melatonin supplements or valerian root work for some people, calcium supplements really work for me (they relax your body), listening to white noise kind of lulls you to sleep, and not oversleeping so that you are tired enough the next night.  If you go the hard sleep drug route, be careful with ambien, a whole one is way too strong (and I'm 5'10", so not tiny) and it makes you feel strange the next day, but a half of one does do the trick as far as sleep.

Good luck!  The pattern is hard to break, but it can be done :)

I have insomnia every now and then and when it strikes I take benadryl. Most over the counter sleep aids (Tylenol PM, etc.) use the main ingredient in benadryl for the "sleep" part of it. It's not the best solution - I'm usually a little groggy the next day - but it does usually help me fall asleep and stay asleep. The reason I like it is because it's not habit-forming like some prescription sleep aids can be. It can take 30 minutes or so for it to kick in though.

You know what, I'm going to try Tylenol pm tonight and see how I feel. I am scared to try sleeping drugs ... I am the type of person that feels awful the next day if I even take benadryl!!!!!!!

I'm an insomniac and I've never considered prescription drugs because my issue is chronic.  In your case though, especially since you're only a couple days out, I'd definitely ask the doctor for something to help you.  I knew a MOG who had to do this when her son's wedding was like a week away.  GL.

When I have a lot going on and I can't stop thinking, I hit the Tylenol PM. I take it about 8:30 and I'm out by 10.  I get up at 6 and I feel so much better.

i had a hard time sleeping in the days leading up to my wedding too - mostly because of stress / things that still had to be done, etc.

try a massage. i didn't have time to slot one in but that always helps me relax. i ended up taking 1 nyquil (2 makes me a zombie when i'm sick).

    good luck!

I'd try an OTC sleep aid.  I know you said they make you feel groggy, but it appears either way you'll be groggy, so you may as well be getting some sleep too.

    Good luck!

oh no, good luck! I suffer from insomnia pretty regularly (i sleep eat, i know...i know...) and i've tried every class of sleeping pill and they all make me feel like sh*t. I now keep a notepad by the bed, don't watch exciting tv shows before bed, and i brush my cats as a bedtime 'ritual' (go ahead and laugh). I also sprinkle lavendar calming scented oils and stuff on my pillow. They are so strong i relax immediately and konk out pretty good. I don't know if it's a placebo effect (like i know it's supposed to relax me, so it does kind of thing), but i don't really care!

Would sleeping somewhere else help? Sounds dumb but the best night of sleep i got for the whole week of my wedding was in a hotel, thursday night, with DH, after pie and a martini. Something about being AWAY was very helpful.

I like Simply Sleep for occasional insomnia.  Its Tylenol PM minus the Tylenol (same manufacturer and everything).  It puts me to sleep with out making me groggy the next day.

Also try lavender lotion.  I know it sounds crazy, but Johnson and Johnson makes a baby lotion to help babies sleep.  It works on adults too.  And its much cheaper than "special" aromatherapy lotions.

It happens...honestly wiith your wedding 10 days out I dont think a Dr. appt is worth it.  They are just going to say you have a lot on your mind w/ the wedding.  And you don't want to introduce any new prescription drugs this close to your wedding.

I couldn't sleep for some reason before my sister's wedding.  I tried tylenol PM and it just made me foggy.  I suggest tough workouts, lots of water, a glass of red wine an hour before bed, and making lists of things to do (and crossing stuff off that list during the day....)

For some reason I am sleeping like a baby!!!  It's awesome.  I just am so busy getting stuff done during the day that I sleep pretty hard.  I wake up early, and, once I am up, my mind is going crazy..

    Good luck!

I went through some bad insomnia a few weeks ago and the doc gave me ambien. Of course I freaked out when I read all the scary stories and side effects, but I only took half a pill and it gave me safe and sound sleep, and I didn't feel groggy the next day. Might be something to consider, I know pills aren't always the best solution but if this continues you have to sleep!! One of the best natural things that  has helped my insomnia is just accepting that some nights I won't sleep well. If you can accept it, your body relaxes a little bit. Do you have a work schedule that's making it difficult to be sleepy all day?
