Gah!!!!!
I'm glad it washed off!! I was playing with play-doh at the pre-party for my bachelorette party (um, yeah) and had a freak out moment! I thought I had gotten play-doh all in it (it's a full band pave, so that would seriously suck!!) but thank all things holy, I hadn't. Still, I took it off until I was finished being five years old again. :)
I'd taken my ring off to paint at someone's house my FI was working for. I put it in my pocket since I thought it would be safe there. Apparently not. I went to put it back on & couldn't find it. I now honestly can't remember where it was, but I was soo upset that I thought I lost my ring!
Yeah, I always take my ring off to wash dishes and I place it on top of the microwave. Numerous times my playful cat Tigerlily has swatted at it until it fell off onto the floor--and once into the sink! My poor ring really needs a better home while I'm washing dishes/cleaning!
I did the same thing with spraypaint!!!!
I was working on something at home and using a white paint. My ring looked all gloomy and cloudy and I FREAKED. Did the same thing tho - toothbrush and hot soapy water and it was fine. Scared the crap out of me.
Whew...glad to know I'm not the only one that had uh oh moments. lol I did have a dream the other night that my diamond grew to a huge size and then had air bubbles in it...I woke up panicking and having to look at my ring. lol
@lizann- what if you put it IN the microwave? That way your cat couldn't get to it and you'd still be in the habit of going to where you left it!
That's why I never take it off! I'm a disaster of a human being, it'd be gone in a minute. We also got it insured, just in case of disaster. (I was there years ago when my mother's diamond fell out of her setting! Thankfully we heard it and found it).
My only ring "uh oh" moment was a doozy - about two months after getting engaged, I looked down and my ring was gone. No idea where it went. I looked everywhere and never found it. Fortunately, it was insured and I now have a replacement.
redherring! You brave woman you - I would have been so traumatized! Just out of curiousity, does your new ring look anything like your old ring? Did you get the same one or decide to go for something different?
@TarragonFly: Oh, I'm not that brave - I left out the part about crying hysterically and almost hyperventilating as I emptied out my trash can, item by item, hoping and praying that I'd find it. Thank goodness for insurance! I got the exact same ring. When my fiance originally purchased my ring, the only guidance I gave him was "platinum band". He did the rest, and I absolutely *love* what he chose. The only change was a smaller size :)
OMG redherring; I would have been devastated. I'm alwasy afraid of something like that heppening. Even when I leave it at home because I know i'm going to be working & getting dirty; my heart still stops for a second when I look down and see it's not there!!! Thank god I also have mine insured.....
I take my ring off when I shower, wash my face, and put my makeup on. One Saturday night (my bachelorette party night actually) my hubby was going to drop me off at my friend's but we were running late thanks to me. I was having one of those days where my hair was doing it's own thing, my eye liner smudged, my mascara clumped, etc. I had bought some new makeup and in a haste I just threw it all back in the shopping bag and threw it under the sink to put away later. We hopped in the car and I realized I didn't have my ring. No worries, I just left it on the soap dish in the bathroom where I always put it. I ran in the house to get it. Not there. Crap.
I looked around the bathroom. Couldn't find it. I ransacked my purse twice. Not there. I crawled around the floor frantically searching. @&%$!! I peered down the drain of the sink... did it.... ? Finally about 10 minutes later (felt like hours!) I pulled out the bag of makeup out from under the sink. Among the makeup was my shiny e-ring at the bottom of the bag. PHEW!!!!
My hubby teased me about it at first... until about a month later he lost his for about an hour and it turned up in the couch cushions.
If I put my ring in the microwave, I'm fairly certain that I'd actually microwave it and something even worse would happen to it! I never take off my ring unless I'm at home. I hear about women who take off their ring to wash their hands in the bathroom and then leave without taking it with them! Would never ever want to go through that even though I have ring insurance.
I've never actually had this happen to me but I fear it all the time...I work a hospital and change gloves/wash hands for every patient. I'm so paranoid that I will pull off my gloves and my ring will go with them in the trash!! Everytime I change them I have to look at my hand and make sure it's still there!
I took mine off to put lotion on at work one day. I then walked into my boss's office. I was taking notes and then realized that my ring wasn't on my finger. I went looking all through the office before finding it on my computer stand. YIKES.
I take a few ceremics and bronze casting classes at my college and have had a few oh crap forgot to take my ring off moments but luckly its fine.
oh my gosh! glad it was okay...i haven't had one yet, but i know that feeling...

So, the other night, I was making my reception tossing bouquet. Well, I couldn't find the right color of purple flowers, so I decided to spray paint them. They turned out great...Well, then I started cleaning up and took my ring off so i could wash my hands. It was then I noticed a purple ring of spraypaint around my finger where my ring had been. I immediately grabbed my ring to survey the damage...Thankfully, just a few specs of paint that came off quite easily with a toothbrush and dish soap...Whew...Crisis taken care of. I still can't believe I didn't remember to take of my ring as I was spraypainting. DUH. Has anyone else had any ring "uh oh" moments?
