@braverbeating:  I totally get it.  TOTALLY.

FI and I recently moved and while living expenses are cheaper here in SC than they were in NY, we have more expenses in general (we were living rent free, etc).  We’re both living on my salary as FI sort of.. ‘find himself’ – which I am fully supporting!  At the same time, I’m wishing he finds himself asap and starts making money because there are things I’d like to do – like buy things without thinking twice if my cc is maxed out this month, go on vacations.. oh yea and PLAN OUR WEDDING.. which I can’t do until I know our budget which I won’t know until he gets a job!  So yes, maybe it’s a little bit selfish but whatever, it’s reality.

On another note – I know for a fact that the NYPD pays for the 6-month police academy.  Does the police dept by you not do the same thing?  I can’t imagine that the training period is unpaid if it’s THAT long.

Trying to become a police officer is usually a full time job in itself…

@braverbeating:  I don’t think you’re being unreasonable or selfish.  This are realistic thoughts and it’s not like you’re asking him to NOT follow his dream.  But before you feel too down on yourself, wait to get the information because he may very well be getting paid for it and then you won’t have to worry 🙂

@braverbeating:  I don’t think you’re being selfish at all. It’s natural to feel irritated if certain aspects affect other plans. My DH decided last year he wanted to leave his very well paying job to return to school to pursue a degree and job in engineering. We went from a household of making over six figures to living off my salary alone. Between rent, bills, student loans, etc there isn’t much left at the end of the month. This is forcing us to push back our plans of having kids for another three years until he is almost done. So I totally get it!

@braverbeating:  ahh you’re so close! lol  anyways.  I have a friend of mine who’s husband is a cop in bucks county and he has 2 part time jobs.  One that pays decent and the other that he hopes will help him move into exactly where he wants to be.  It all depends on the township tho.  Best of luck!!

@braverbeating:  ah really?  how do you like delco in comparison?  my mom lives in bucks now.  DH and I bought a house in NW Philly but I grew up in the Northeast.  FBI sounds amazing.  I heard it pays to be state trooper too.

@braverbeating:  Right now he kind of hates it. lol. He’s doing the last of his non-core classes like English and History which he dreaded bc he’s been out of school so long. He’s counting down the days left in the semester. After this, it’s all math and engineering clases which is way more interesting to him.
