@MsBeer:  Aw I’m sure he’ll be able to find a really cute ring regardless!!!

I looked with my FI before we were engaged and I was so glad we did. My FI loves big, fat solitares. I know a lot of people do too, but I really DONT like solitares. I find that they’re more expensive because the Cs become more important with just a single stone. I showed him what I liked and it really helped. I did love a few of the rings I saw but I knew that I couldn’t have them.

After he proposed (sans ring…) I looked at bidz.com and found my beauty, FI was working and couldn’t buy it but it had a 30 minute hold on the price after the auction ended (the way bidz works is most rings have a reserve, and if the reserve isn’t met, they notify everyone who bid what the reserve price is and offer it at that cost. if you put it in your cart the ring is locked for 30 minutes then released if you don’t purchase it so someone else who bid can)

I almost lost the ring and honestly would have been a little obsessive if I had, FI wanted to be there with me and pick one we both loved, but he did cave….

HONESTLY for budget I’d check out bidz.com they’ll ship worldwide I believe and you’ll still save a ton.

My ring is valued at 5,500 he paid 500 for the ring, + appraisal, shipping and customs, it was about 850-900. Still peanuts compared to the real cost. I know I say this site a lot but really if you’ve got the time to look (and if you’re not engaged just browsing he might have that time!) it can be worth while. It took a few days to find mine, and yes its real, I got another appraisal locally to confirm 🙂

lol….yes.  Usually, when I am “just looking”,  thats when I find the prettiest, most perfect ring.  When the time comes to buy, I can’t decide which one I want because suddenly I love them all.  Laughing

Although I love my e-ring, I really wish I hadn’t browsed…I fell for a ring (I still love it) it was out of FI’s price range. (When we initially looked it wasn’t, life happened.) So we looked again and he found a vintage looking sapphire. I loved it so we put a deposit on it. I love both rings…and my sweet FI for wanting to marry me which is the most important thing. But yep I have ring regret…Thank goodness for anniversaries!

@MsBeer:  I know it sounds obvious but be sure you love it and you’ll always love it…your ring will be with you for a long time. Not meaning to pressure you though, the most important thing is the right man and a long and happy marriage…everything else is just icing on the cake.

@MsBeer:  I was looking at rings and fell in love with what i THOUGHT i wanted… a cushion cut diamond, no halo, with a band of diamonds “not enclosed”. I wanted it to sparkle.

What he got me was much better than I even imagined. It was princess cut (I guess cushion cut can look smaller compared to princess due to the way it sits) with a vintage feel. The diamonds are slighlty enclosed in these little boxes, hard to imagine I know but I cant upload a picture, I’m at work.. sorry. And I see the ring i wanted all over (very popular) and keep thinking “thank God he didnt get that for me”

Moral of the story: You may find you love what he gets you more than what you originally “fell in love with”. Part of me loving the ring is HE picked it thinking I would love it. And I do. This is what HE chose for me, ya know.

It took my FI and I six months to choose our diamond and setting!

IT WAS WORTH EVERY SECOND 🙂 Don’t rush this! This is a complex purchase! It’s a very good sign that your SO is being careful, it just shows how much he wants to get it just right!
