Every city/state is different. The only way you can know that is by calling the court and asking…

@mbk318: Could he see with the court about having the hearing date continued to a later time?

@mbk318:Call and try and change the court date.  It’s totally worth it!  I found out that if you go to court, not only will you not get points on your record, they will reduce the fine if you ask. Plus, in California they have traffic school which keeps you from getting points and you’re supposed to be able to go once every 18 months but if you go to court and ask, they’ll let you go twice.  Go to court and save a ton of money.  That was my lesson. Good luck:)

Like Crayfish said, it completely depends on the city/state. I tried to get a court date moved (for one of my many speeding tickets) and was told that it wasn’t possible and that if I didn’t show up, a warrant would be issued for my arrest. Yea, I made due with that court date!

If he was able to contact them to pay the ticket, he would be paying for the charge that he was originally given. I’m pretty sure you actually have to show up to court to accept the reduced terms.

I’ve gotten a speeding ticket that I didn’t dispute and was allowed to make payments on it… this was probably 8 or 9 years ago and they let me pay it over 3 months. They also gave me another month (or maybe 6 weeks) extension before I made those arrangements.

I remember they also told me (AFTER I paid the full amount) I could go to the court date and that if someone shows up and acts like they have their ducks in a row, they usually decrease it.

Never heard of the points not hitting the license. Thought they only drop off after 2 years.

I had a friend who showed up at her date (going 10 mph over the limit — it as like a $125 fine) and the cop who gave her the ticket never even showed… she got it dismissed.

My ticket was in Michigan and my friends was in Illinois.
