The funny thing is that I never really considered myself a purple fan until recently. I decided I wanted it about a year and a half or so ago for my wedding, and I think it was when the whole purple "jewel tone" color was hot in fashion. Maybe that's why it's showing up so much in recent weddings?
I really wanted Kelly Green, but FI was adamant that blue or red be incorporated. Neither really goes with Green (in Oct :-) So, We are going with purple and blue ;-)
My FSIL had purple for her July 2006 wedding, and my BM who just got married this past April used the same shade, too. I think it has always been popular, but it may be having a moment. DB introduced that Lapis shade a few season ago, so it was probably already getting more popular with other designers.
I don't think it's a WB thing necessarily. Purple is just a really popular color-- I used it! It would be interesting to see some statistics on "popular wedding colors of 2010" though! I'm sure purple would be up there. :)
I think purple is always a very popular color. It seems to me like I see a lot of purple weddings every year. As a matter of fact, I think I've only attended one wedding in my life that didn't have purple in it somewhere!
It's easy to like purple so much, it goes with every season and looks good with just about every skin tone.
Same i think purple is always a popular colour, although i do feel like i saw more of it, but probably just because i was looking for it. We had purple and green wedding and loved it!
I think purple is popular right now in general.
I am wondering if purple and green is super popular because I attended a wedding last summer that was purple and green. This summer I am attending 2 purple and green weddings this July. Holy moly!
Wow, now that you meantioned it, there are a lot of purple weddings! I've never been to one that incorperated purple, and I've been to a lot...but looking around on here there are definatly a ton! Purple and blue are my colours aswell
I agree! Purple seems to be popular in the magazines and within the hive...my wedding was purple :) It also worked out well because the lilac festivel on the island where we were married the week before :)
I love lavender! The smell... The color... It's ability to lull me to sleep! I chose lavender to me the feminine color is our wedding because of the flowers. I've never been much into purple as a color, but I love having it in my wedding. Our coordinating color began chocolate brown... but is now an array of browns. We're making it all very rustic though... so the purple is just a kick of girl for me. =D
Honestly, I feel like tons of weddings are Black & White with some bright accent color like red or fuschia. It seems to me everyone is using Damask prints with black & white everywhere!

I just posted my recap post and then went and looked through all the other recent recaps, and WOW! Holy purple! Is this a Weddingbee thing or do you think purple was THE 2010 color?
