My dress has a lot of sparkle, so I am not doing a huge hairpiece, but I did find this barrette I love from www.jenarichards.com
I totally agree on the feather thing. I'm not a big fan either.
I purchased my lovely modern veil at 5eizen on etsy. She also has some more modern designs. Check her out.

kitty25kat25 - i LOVE that barette. so sparkly, and yet so vintage. love it.
JessicaHayes - i had forgotten about 5eizen (probably because i can't figure out how to say it, hah). she has some beautiful, modern, clean things. so fantastic.
leaver - I totally hear you! There are so many gorgrous options out there. Especially when you want to make a statement with your hair accessory. I think that if you want to continue with a rustic feel then I would also go with the last one. I think that the flower would give a subtle but noticeable dash of color to your hair.
kitty25kat25 - I love love love the barette it super cute. You can never go wroung with a little Bling!
Is there a possiblity that you might use more than one option so that you don't have to choose? I think Mrs. Avocado changed her headpiece during her wedding day.
Good luck!
i used twistedcrystals on etsy for my flowers and LOVE them. she does custom orders as well :)
hi!i'm saphir ,for any of the option that you'll choose i can offer my service to you and i recommand you to wear an eye-catcher headpiece to add something special to your look because of the simplicity of your dress. To see all the samples you can go to my site;www.saphirhairbraiding.com
I am doing two different hair pieces. One is a sparkly headband with crystals for the ceremony, and the other is a black headband (there are two from Urban Outfitters that I like and I can't decide which one to choose just yet: http://images.urbanoutfitters.com/is/image/UrbanOutfitters/15875743_01_b?$prodmain$ or http://images.urbanoutfitters.com/is/image/UrbanOutfitters/15633464_01_b?$detailmain$). Switching from the the formal look to the fun look for the reception. So excited.

i've been going around and around in circles trying to figure out what to put in my hair for my wedding. my dress is super simple (the jcrew sophia), so i want to really do it up with my hair. so far, i've seen several options (thank goodness for etsy!).
1) feather fascinator - http://loboheme.etsy.com or http://portobello.etsy.com
2) silk flower w/ brooch - http://brasspaperclip.etsy.com
3) kanzashi - http://atelierkanawa.etsy.com
4) handmade organic-looking flowers - http://mgmart.etsy.com
i've seriously considered each and every one of those options. i'm leaning away from the feathers out of concern it'd look 'western'. i want something more homemade than the silk flower. the kanzashi are BEAUTIFUL (i LOVE what this bride did with them: http://theflirtyguide.com/pages_ideas/idea_gown_kimono_ribbon_flowers.html), but won't fit with the rustic farm feel of the wedding. right now, i'm leaning towards the last.. so beautiful, and diy friendly!
are you doing a fun piece of art in your hair? what are your plans? i'd love more ideas!
