@Kissed_by_lightning:  Ours was blown up from the begining. FI and I both come from divorced families and 3 out of our 4 parents are remarried and the 4th one has had a girlfriend for years. Between all of our parents, siblings and step siblings we had 20 people. Add in our grandparents, step grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins we were at 90. That’s only the close family!  All 4 sides of FIs family is huge. Our guest list was every bit 300 people.

@Kissed_by_lightning:  We are at 103, between the families and cloesest friends. His family that *must* be invited and their plus ones is right at 31 people. The chapel seats 45. I’ve got the ceremony down to 53 or so, and that’s 98% family. Most of my family live out of state, so they won’t actually come. I figure our final count will be around 90 or so.

@Kissed_by_lightning:  We decided on 28 guests max before we derived the guest list.  And we stuck to the plan!

It’s funny…our original thought was 50 MAX. We had made our must have list that was around 35. We ended up inviting 82! Seriously our parents got out of hand but we cut them off. If they had their way I think we would be at 200 LOL! Luckily for us our venue can hold up to 150 so we are okay and of course some of the people will RSVP No.

@Kissed_by_lightning:  I am one of 4 kids.  My mom is one of 5, as with my dad.  My FI is one of 3, his mom is one of 5 and his dad is one of 6 kids.  I have 13 cousins on my dad’s side, 6 +/- cousins on my mom’s depending on how her brothers are acting.

My FI has 6 cousins on his moms and I think 8+ on his dad’s side.

Then there are grandparents, friends and all of that.

We said no to it all (they just don’t know yet).  No cousins, parents, sibilings, grandparents and 3 friends each.  Yes, it’s a tight list but we don’t want a huge wedding, we’re both introverts (him more than me), his family is entirely introverts, my family is a mix (with my dad being a flaming extrovert) and it’s better if we keep it small…the people that count will be more comfortable.

@searock I feel your pain with all the cousins and parents’ siblings. I am 1 of 2 but my mom has 7 siblings. That wasn’t the hard part, my FI’s mom is the youngest of 18 and his Dad is the youngest of 12! On his Dad’s side, all his Aunt’s and Uncle’s have 4+ kids. Just so many people!

So we opted for very small, it would have been too crazy.
