Oh girl that sucks! Hopefully, he didn't go too far. My cat that my dad has got out twice and was gone for a month before they were able to get him back in. I would try putting out some food to see if you can coax him back to the house.
I wouldnt panic. hell come back as soon as hes hungry\thirsty. Hopefully. Try taking some wet tuna or cat food out there and see if he comes back up haha
My cat got out and ended up on the neighbor's roof. Then she figured out how to go and come back. I think the water bowl is what convinced her to come back. She was gone a week the first time and came back super skinny. It always freaked me out when she disappeared.
I would try going outside and calling for him really early in the morning (before it gets busy and loud). He'll be hungry and probably was up all night hunting. He'll want some food!
Cats are hit or miss. This is a new kitty right? Hopefully he knows where his home is! Lots of food, shake the box, call his name. Catnip lol anything
My cat has been an indoor/outdoor cat since he was about a few months old, we let him out during the day and he comes and goes as he pleases. We make sure to get him in before it gets dark though he does take off sometimes but always comes back.
Do you feed your cat can food? My cat will always come for wet food or treats but it doesn't seem like your cat is interested in treats. Maybe some cat nip or some toys?
My cat will always run away from me if I try to get him, he thinks it’s a game of chase, so sometimes I pretend like I'm looking for something or at something and his curiosity gets the better of him and he comes and looks and then I grab him.
Does he have a collar or microchip? If someone does find him before you do, they’ll be able to get him back to you.
I don't think you should worry yet. We have a creek behind my house and my cat goes fairly far but he knows where home is and always gets back.
Ok I know this might not be the place to say this but...
I came on here and I was going to post this as a new thread, so here it goes.... I'd like your input as a cat owner.
My family and I went for an evening stroll, and on the way back, a cat followed us home. She followed us about 8 blocks. So we took her in, to look on the lost and found ads, to no avail. Should we just let her go, or keep her until we can get ahold of animal control center?
Katyelle, I hope you find your cat!
Soooooo guess who just plastered himself to the screen door like a flying squirrel and crying like a baby?
Yup.
Crisis averted!
@Cash000: If Jacques hadn't come back I'd really feel better having someone keeping him safe if we couldn't be reunited right away.
Oh and I thought he'd be out all night hunting and climbing trees, but he jumped into my arms purring, head butting me, went straight for the food and then took a long luxurious trip to the litter box. He's been kneading my pants and drooling every since like "Sorry mom, I couldn't make it on the outside, HOLD ME"
Yeesh.
Aww I'm glad to hear he's ok.We locked out our cat one time, actually quite a few times hihi... he sneaks out without us knowing then when we come back inside the house, he stays out. The few times that he spent the night outside, he came back the next morning, meowing and purring and cuddling us, but as soon as he had his food, water and litter box, that's it, he didn't want us anymore. Cats are too cute.
Lol hilarious! Awesome that your cat came back. Make sure to check him for any fleas he might of gotten from being outside. Even if it was for a short while. My cat got out recently and the stray cats outside have fleas. My cat got worms from the fleas! Apparently fleas can carry worm eggs with them.
haha I love cats :-) Im glad he came home! He just needed to explore the outside world a bit to realize that the comforts of a house are much better.
Aww man, I saw the title of this thread and nearly had a heart attack for you! I'm so glad he came back!
Glad he came home!! I took the dogs for a walk with DH the other day and saw a cat and said, Wow, that looks just like our cat! Upon closer inspection, it was! Our cats are indoor cats, but a worker at the house inadvertently let one out. Thank goodness we saw him, I didn't even know he got out.
Happy ending :) I'm so glad. I always hate it when I read posts like this and they turn out bad!
My cat SCREAMS to go outside every day. I've been letting her out for years. Like you, I used to panic when she'd run out. Now, I gladly open the door. She just either lays on our front steps or in the window sill looking into our kitchen. I've left her out over night a few times, but every time I do she just comes running back to me screaming all the way.
@sleepingbeauty88: Ah the happy dreams pose... love it!
So I had the bright idea of letting him out again because I figured "Hey, maybe he's just meant to go out sometimes" but turns out all he does it sit on the upstairs neighbor's steps and cry. So I think we'll be keeping him in from now on.
He's so weird, he cries to come back but then runs away when you approach him? Finally last night I gave up, but my husband had the pleasure of being woken up at 2am when he was plastered to the screen door again.
@KatyElle: Do you guys have a deck or a back yard? I used to let my cats out on our deck. Also, I've gotten small halters for them that go over their chest and used to take her outside on a leash. Silly? Absolutely - but she loved it, learned boundaries, and now she's out all the time. And, I never have to worry about her because she just stays around the house.
side note, i should probably have her microchipped since she doesn't wear a collar.
@sleepingbeauty88: We have a semi fenced in back yard, and the few times he's been out he doesn't go beyond our neighbor's driveway. Last night he was chasing another tom and the other cat ran into the road, no bueno. There were no cars but still. I might invest in a leash lol
I was lucky, they microchipped him for me at the shelter before he was adopted! I had no idea all the perks of adopting.
Just a thought, he IS more likely to pick up fleas, etc. if you let him out. Although you live in a no-pets complex, don't you? (I suppose letting him out would also mean he's more likely to annoy the neighbors in that case as well, haha)
@daydreamwanderer: this is true, however, I have had my cat for 10 years, and been letting her out for 6 of them regularly. have never seen one single flea on her.
@daydreamwanderer: He wears a flea collar as well as I.D. tags. I put the collar on while my mother was cat-sitting just in case he did get out and she couldn't catch him.

Beekeeper
I opened the front door for 2 seconds to bring the stroller in and he darted out. I tried to coax him with treats and almost had him but he ran away. I haven't seen him for an hour.
Should I be panicking right now? This is not good.
