@Marriedandlovingit: Has he been eating at all? If not, it's definitely time for the vet. There are all sorts of things that could be happening, but animals should always be evaluated when there's such a drastic change in behavior.
Ah, reading fail. Saw the bit about the husband. That's odd, but he probably just senses your changing hormones. I'd probably still get him checked over if he has any other changes in behavior, though.
The issue definitely sounds behavioral. Dogs are funny about changes and can be very sensitive. I'm wondering if he's responding to you being the Alpha. I know some dogs personally that won't eat until their masters do. He could be waiting for you to take some first.
do you typically give him treats or your husband? If you typically do he might be "holding out" for the good stuff from you.
@Marriedandlovingit: It could just be the pregnancy thing. My dog used to start gobbling as soon as I poured it and now waits for me to walk away. She also started peeing on my feet, so the eating thing is the least of my problems.
@mwitter80: Peeing on your feet? That really sucks! I guess she was/is telling the world that you are her mommy and nobody else's lol.
@MsNarwhal: We very rarely give our pets treats.
@MissHelen He sees both of us as the alpha without a doubt. He is seriously the sweetest little pup! He is super sensitive to my emotions. For example, if I am ever having a bad day, he comes right over to me and will stay by my side until I feel better. These days he is clinging to me like glue. Like right now he is resting his little body (he's 7 lbs) on my chest lol.
For the past few days, my husband has fed him when he got home from work because he won't eat for me in the afternoon (my husband feeds him in the morning as well). Tonight, I am thinking of trying again myself and if he won't eat then that will be that. I am feeding them at both feedings tomorrow so I really hope he eats for me.
@Marriedandlovingit: It's fantastic :/ She also sniffs my lady parts and then runs around the house like she's eaten 10lbs of pure sugar.
@mwitter80: "She also sniffs my lady parts and then runs around the house like she's eaten 10lbs of pure sugar."
My dog does that too! But peeing on your feet must suck.
@Marriedandlovingit: Can you just leave his food on the floor if he doesn't eat right away? Or will your other dog steal it?
@mwitter80: That sounds like a joy! The running around the house bit sounds like my other dog. He will get in this mood where he will run in circles around the house for minutes at a time. It is so funny! He does the same thing outside too. However, I've yet to have my foot peed on, but I guess I can't rule it out from happening since I still have a ways to go in the pregnancy lol
@Mrs.KMM: Leaving the food on the floor isn't an option. My cat is a little piglet and will steal it any opportunity she gets :P. We feed them in their crates, and have tried both leaving the door open and closing it. It doesn't make a difference.
Maybe with your changing hormones and the impending arrival of another pack member, he's unsure of his place with you? Maybe you could hand feed him for a couple meals so it gets reinforced that you're his person and all good things, like food, will still come from you. We only give our puppy 15 minutes to eat and then pick up her food but her issue is more about being picky while your guy seems to be uncomfortable with his place in your changing life.
It's tough to tell what our furry babies are thinking. For all I know he might be thinking uh oh, she's preggers and needs all the food she can get so I better leave my food for her! Maybe eat in front of him before you feed him so he knows it's okay for him to eat?
Dogs are weird. :) Seriously. My 2 labs go in weird cycles with their eating. My lab puppy (1 year) won't eat the nights I feed him when he knows I'm going to work and DH isn't home. He refuses to eat till someone is home with him. Likewise with our older baby. If we feed him before we are leaving somewhere like at dinner time, he will not eat till we get home. Dogs are good at picking up changes especially pregnancy!
Maybe needs some more excercise or wants to work for it? Like hid soome kibble around or make a game out of it?
They can go through wierd phases.
My pup jut turned 15 months, and no longer needs the 3-4x a day puppy feeding schedule, he likes 2 times a day and can even manage on big feeding. Depends on his activity and if his other needs have been met.
Is your husband working longer hours than usual (and feeding the dog less frequently than usual)? It's possible it's in response to a change that your dog connects with your husband, rather than you...just a thought.
Well I tried to feed him again this evening. I closed his crate and walked away then he wound up demolishing his food. My husband was home but I told him to stay in another room to see what would happen. I guess he was really hungry! We'll see how it goes tomorrow as I feed him both feedings since my husband needs to leave early in the morning for a meeting.
Thank you for your advice everyone! I will see how tomorrow goes and update!

I have two dogs. One of them in particular has been very attached to me lately. I assume it's because I am pregnant, and he knows something is different. When my husband feeds him he gobbles it right up. However for the past week when I feed him, the poor guy refuses to eat. He just looks at me with no desire to eat. Does anyone know of any kind of a solution? I am very confused by this behavior.
