Looking for a little de-stressing....I have been searching for weeks for a venue...I loved the Grandview but cannot meet the 175 minimum for the indoor ballroom...I was not in love with the outdoor ballroom and all the dates we love are booked. Does anyone know if the minimum lowers inside when the outside ballroom is closed?
Also, anyone have any reviews of The Links at Union Vale?
Oh no!! Don't stress out! I'm sure you will find the perfect location! Which areas are you looking?
I am getting married at the Grandview next summer, so I will list their minimums from my package. Unfortunately, I don't believe the minimum lowers when the outdoor ballroom closes, but have you considered a Saturday afternoon, a Friday or a Sunday? On Fridays you only have to guarantee 125, Saturday afternoon (12:00 - 5:00) is a 100 person guarantee, and Sunday is a guarantee of 125.
What about the Dutchess Manor? I also looked there before booking the Grandview. The Dutchess Manor has two ballrooms, the Victorian Ballroom only has a minimum of 90 guests and the Main Dining Salon has a minimum of 140.
I don't really know anything about the Links at Union Vale. I hope this helps!!
Thanks so much! We are looking throughout the Hudson Valley and CT. Unfortunately, a Friday wedding will not work due to my fiance's work and we only want a Sunday if a holiday weekend as we have many guests who are travelling. Those are the things we know...that and we want it on a Saturday night...so we just have to deal. I did look at Dutchess Manor...I really loved Dean but I wasn't "in love" with the venue. Sad too because I think he would have been awesome to work with!
We are just going to keep looking, i just feel that I am so behind the ball...but, it will all work out in the end, right?
How close are you to the minimum? At my venue (in Ohio) if we are below the minimum, which happens to be 175 as well, we just pay a different rate for the "people" to make up that difference. Maybe see if Grandview has that option?
What about Catlin Gardens in Slate Hill? I loved in there but wasn't sure if we would fit so I opted against it. The funny thing is now I think we would. I know no view of the river:(
Also I loved the belvedere mansion but it was too far for us and also again capacity issues.
I dont know if this will help you but we are getting married on Sunday after Thanksgiving-believe it or not--the world is our oyster..only prob was 2 cake vendors refused me but I got the best one in the end! Good luck!
Awww...thank you guys so much for your suggestions! Unfortunately, our list starts at 176 so we would be far under the minimum...or, very popular ;)
I did send a request to Catlin Gardens and Belvedere Mansion...I have to call today...they were not forthcoming with prices via email. We did look at the Garrison but it is out of our price range (sadly :()
Pinklau...how many guests are you having (curious since you said you didn't think you'd fit)
Richsgal - The Garrison has a sister property called the Highlands that might be more reasonable. We had our rehearsal dinner there and had a great BBQ buffet for a reasonable price....it was too small for us for the wedding but might work for you??
I think Catlin manor is about $98 - $118 for a Saturday wedding in June 2009, just to give you an idea. Did you try the Fountainhead, the Venetian Yacht Club, the Vanderbuilt Mansion, Jeriecho Terrace, or Skyland Castle? (I'm not sure if those are in Hudson Valley or NYC, I'm not from NY and it's been a year or so since I visited them.)
We were going to drive up to Catlin Manor yesterday but ended up not...and i left a message with the person last week but have not heard from her. Here is a question...do you know anything about the cakes...i notice the packages say "choose from these" and i don't want to get locked into a cake style...just curious if you knew
The Vanderbilt Mansion is actually a place we considered doing photos at...and i think their website says there is a block on photos, etc. due to something...
I want to try and stay out of Westchester because I would rather be close to home...ugh. I feel like I am this picky bride...but really, i'm not.
Actually, I emailed Stephanie (their coordinator) about changing the cakes and she said "<font face="Georgia" size="2" color="#0000ff">you may upgrade to one of the other cakes in another package it is an additional $200.00. "</font>
<font face="Georgia" size="2" color="#0000ff">If you get a chance... do drive up to Catlin though...it's gorgeous... my favorite venue, but I couldn't afford...tight budget:)</font>
<font face="Georgia" size="2" color="#0000ff">Don't worry about being a picky bride.. I looked at well over 50 places... I hope you find what you are looking for. I just threw away most of my pricing for a lot of the venues, but I still have alot of emails, so if you are looking for soemthing, let me know... i might have it. I hope everything works out well</font>
Have you looked at FEAST? Its in Washingtonville, NY. My husband and I got married there last fall and we loved it. We had 130 as our final number, but I think they can hold more. We had it on a Saturday night and I think their minimum was 110 or something like that. Good luck finding a place!
Thanks so much for the info on Catlin...I spoke to Stephanie who was very nice...but although the cake is not the most important thing to me, i would like some say in what it looks like.
I think I am going to go with The Links at Union Vale...they have the dates (approx) of what we are looking for and to be honest, I am tired of looking...I think in total I looked at about 10 places...which I know is not alot but many places in the area are booked for the time of year we want or are out of our budget and I do not want to postpone it past the fall of next year. Also, it is hard to get the time to look as I work in NYC and only have the weekends...The Links is within our budget AND has the dates we want.
Thank you so much for all of your help! I am sure as I go on, i will ahve more ??s

posted by allerliebst 8 posts 1 month agoThat is a good idea too! I know at the Grandview they told me if I'm below 175, the vendor meals could count towards the total too!
I agree with you about the Dutchess Manor - that is EXACTLY how I felt!
What about a site like Locust Grove or somewhere like that where you bring in your own caterer, etc. so there wouldn't be a minimum?
I will keep thinking for you too!

posted by Janna19 339 posts 1 month agoOriginally we thought 225-230 but even with inviting 270 looks like we are going to get right around 200.
