We drove ourselves to and from the wedding. Actually we had to play musical cars to get the people and cars all there.
We have decided that we will just rent a large SUV and FH will drive it around that day. We will take a cab/catch a ride back to the hotel at the end of the night.
We are thinking of... a school bus. Maybe. I don't know. It's not exactly super classy, but it is kind of charming, and we happen to have access to quite a few as there are three drivers in the family. When FI's sister got married, their grandfather drove the bridal party out in one for their entrance because there is really no where to walk in from since we're getting married in a field.
I don't think it's a big deal. It's important to some people, notsomuch to others. If your FI doesn't care, why not save the money and let him drive?
@ MissAsB - that's what I want to do, just drive ourselves around all day. It's not a big deal to us. But family members are saying it's not right for the groom to be driving. They're so demented!
@ Amaryllis - I would love a bus! But buses are still expensive in my city. Almost the same cost as a limo, I think. But yes I agree, buses are so charming :)
We will arrive in the rental cars my parents are getting for their trip to MN. Neither of us wants to drive the day of though, because of nerves/stress/distraction and the resulting possibility of an accident. So we'll just be carted around by friends or family in whatever car they have!
We are renting a dodge camaro in red!!! I'm super excited about that one, but sadly FH will be the one driving it. Atleast he gets to have fun!! LOL!
@vfoster03: Dodge challenger or Chevy Camaro?
We're probably going to rent a small car so we can head out afterwards to our honeymoon (I don't think his car will make the honeymoon trip :/) or we have enough tax return money, I could get a used car...maybe.
We drove our own car- we have a bright red Jeep Wrangler. I always thought it would be so much fun to drive off in that! I thought that a limo wasn't really our style either, I would rather spend the money on other things.
We both had a good laugh over getting out of the jeep in our fancy clothes at the fancy resort that we stayed at the night of our wedding and having the valet pick up the car.
If everything goes off without a hitch we, he and I, will arrive seperately via firetruck and picked up together on a firetruck to go to the reception. I love that he is a firefighter and it so has it's advantages. As a back up, like if it rains or the department gets a call and they won't be able to kinda thing, he will be driving his truck and we will shuttle around in it.
We are going to drive ourselves also. We are on such a tight budget that renting a vehicle wasn't even on our minds! At our venue, we have access from 9am to midnight. I'm thinking that my maids and I will do a "sleep-over" thing at one of the maid's house, while my fiance will stay at our duplex with our dog. It's a 45 min drive to the venue, on a boring eventless highway.
My mom's good friend is letting us use her Pontiac Soltice. It will be waiting right outside the church. Mom purchased these neat magnetic signs to put on the doors that say "Josh & Leah" Just Married...so fun!!
We are using the wedding as an excuse to buy a 1965-1970 Mustang. My FH had one back in high school and beginning in college that he and his step dad fixed up (it was a 1969 Coupe) and I was soo bummed he sold it.
He was going to surprise me, but decided it was too big of an expense to not have my input on, so anyway he said he wont let me see it once we find one. I'm very excited! He and his step dad are going to work on it and fix it up just like the did with the previous one so we can get away in style!
We are not sure what we are doing for our wedding party... we are thinking of maybe renting them a car to drive, or just seeing if they wouldn't mind coordinating and have two of the groomsmen drive everyone around.
We are hoping to use FI's '57 Chevy Bel Air or '61 Ford F150!
Totally agree with you, AmberEyes. We are not having a limo either, probably just get a cab to the venue (it's like a 10 minute drive). We don't have a car and fiancé doesn't even drive.
I think we will get a car...or perhaps even a cab. We probably won't be traveling very far, anyway.
I really want a trolley! but Fi says they are ugly :( We need a limo because we are taking pics pretty far from the ceremony/reception and it will just be way easier to figure out the logistics.
We planned on a ford mustang convertible. My sister had a Town Car, it was very nice.
My parents drove us to the wedding, lol. And dropped us off at the hotel. And picked us up in the morning. And everybody carpooled.
i agree that it's a silly waste of cash i could use on something else! we have a shuttle bus for guests (provided free by hotel) and i'm going to get a friend to drive me and my MOH.
We're just driving ourselves. We're sticking to a budget, and transportation was one of the first things we cut. Our ceremony and reception spaces are two tenths of a mile apart, and it just seemed like a big waste to us ;)
We'll have limo! A stretch pinstriped Chrysler 300 one to be exact!! It was one of the things he had to have so since it's his day to, why not let him have it. Hell, I love the idea as well. The Chrysler 300 is the fav vehicle of both of us, we both drive one.
We have a solstice so if my dress will fit in it - which I'm pretty sure it won't lol, we're going to just use our car. If I won't fit, We're going to rent a ridiculously outrageous SUV lol.
We... walked.
We got ready at a hotel nearby, where his parents were staying. We did the first look at a nearby park. We walked from there to the ceremony site with our bridal party. Our photographer was so sweet she walked with us the entire way, taking pictures along the way. We got so many beautiful pictures of New York City street, cobble stone, landmarks, river, people, etc. The ceremony and reception was at the same place. Afterwards, we just took a cab to the hotel we were staying at. It was actually really nice grabbing a cab together at the end of the night, like we always do...
I was afraid my shoes would start to hurt, but I already broke them in, so I was pretty comfortable. That, and I had so much adrenaline I couldn't feel any pain whatsoever :-).
We arn't renting a limo either! Our wedding and reception is at the same location, so we though it would be such a waste to rent a limo just to drive us home at the of the night...when its dark, and our photographer is long gone.....and our family and friends are passed out.....
So, our parents are driving us to the wedding and FI is driving me home. I think its great that just us too will be going home in our regular old car together. Its so "us." :o)
My fmil rented a limo for us it will pick me up and take me to the ceremony and bring us both to the reception site. We didnt need it and she surprised us with it but itll be fun :) I dont think its needed and if we would have paid ourself we would not have done it

We rented a SUV, but at the last minute cancelled it. MY MOH has a SUV which will fit us all and she's going to drive. Along with 2 other cards we will get everywhere. Our budget is really tight, and now, 9 days before, it doesn't seem to matter... Good luck!
We are using a vintage Rolls Royce to take us from our reception to the hotel. For everything else we're pretty much just hitching rides with parents and bridal party :]
we aren't renting a limo either!!! I'm so torn though like you mentioned about what to do at the end of the night - should he drive the 2 of us, or get someone else to? Our ceremony & reception are in the same place but how to get to the hotel after our sparkler send off?
a. FI drives us in our car - its like 2 miles to the hotel.
pros - we have our own car in the am & it can be decorated.
cons- can't have dranken too much - last thing we need is a DWI or accident as newlyweds. It's a small civic, not great for photos.
b. we find someone else to drive us in another car. Ours is a 2 door.
pros- don't have to worry about drinking and keep track of keys etc. more space for my dress not to be all squished
cons - we need to find/borrow/rent said car... can't be decorated if friends', need ride home in the morning. someone else needs to be sober enough to drive us.
yikes. what to do...
@ Vonnegurl - omg, thanks very much for pointing that out--the fact that we'd be too distracted to pay attention to the road. Now I really don't want us to drive :\
@ yes - I, too, wanted to rent a cab! At my work we have a permanent cab driver who chauffeurs us from site to site (I work for an organization with 5 different sites)... anyway, his cab is so clean and pristine. I was thinking of hiring him. But I had too many naysayers, ugh!
@ Rgeddy - I'm right there with you, still weighing out the pros and cons for everything.
I wonder if we could just rent a car and have one of the groomsmen drive us? Is that tacky? =P
Our venue was very close to our hotel so we...took a cab! :)
We got an old timey classic Packard, it's beautiful and much more affordable than the prices of limos.

We don't want a limo. I think it's a frivolous expense. We can't decide on whether we should have someone drive us around in the vehicle that we rent (we're thinking an SUV) or if my fiance should just drive. I mean, what's the big deal if he drives? Right?
What's your mode of transportation for your wedding? Limo? Bus? Town Car? Regular Sedan? Luxury car?
