I would say we may have spent the most on rentals. I wanted these 4 columns lighted around the dance floor to give more light. The columns (lighted) were $50 each, the dance floor was $400 lighting the venue’s back porch $100. Oh, and I wanted lighting UNDER the tables ($11 for each table and we had 10 tables). But it turned out beautifully.

Our photographer. It is really important to me to have good photos. When I tell someone how much our photographer is costing they think I’m crazy. I honestly don’t think its that much, but we are having a small wedding (35-40 guests) so it does take up a big percentage of our budget. If our wedding was bigger the cost of our photographer wouldn’t stick out so much among everything else.

We also decided to splurge on lighting, but its still a lot less than the photography cost. Oh… and we’re spending $900 to rent 76 chairs – that seems absurd to me!

Ours was the venue. We wanted awesome food and a great bar so we definitely spent over the average for that. Everything else was pretty much the cheapest we could find (with a certain amount of quality of course).

I think we spurgled on a lot of different areas.

Photography and florals were a big splurge for us, but our biggest splurge was our venue (which came with food, alcohol, tables & chairs).

If you’re talking about a splurge as something that’s not strictly speaking necessary, but as something you just WANT to have that’s fairly expensive, I’m going to have to say Chiavari chairs. It will be almost $1,000 to have them at the wedding, but it just wouldn’t be the same to use chair covers or have garden chairs. We even got the little pads for them so that they won’t be so horribly uncomfortable.  So not as much $ as our venue or photog, but I feel like we got pretty good deals on those things.

Runner up would probably be our DOC at $650. But I feel like my sanity is worth at least that.

If my dress hadn’t been a gift, my dress! It was 2K, and our wedding cost us 4K!

I think our photog was also over (but just by a little), and our transportation costs were super high (since we took a party bus out dancing that night)!

@BrandNewBride:  My elopement will cost under $2,000 and I know my dress will be more than that. My photographer is embarassingly more than that, lol.

@adoc86:  I don’t tell people what my photog cost anymore 😛 Photos are one of the only reasons we are doing an elopement at all!

I would have to say our rings – together they were around $1800, his being the most expensive one at about $1200. I know we would have been just as married had we gone for cheaper rings, but these rings held a lot of meaning to both of us so we felt like it was worth it. In the end, my mum actually gifted them to us as a surprise, so strictly speaking I guess that WE didn’t splurge on them…

@MrsPanda99:  honestly our initial plan was to elope until my mother insisted on a wedding (I’m her only child and she made me feel so incredibly guilty. Whatever). My parents are paying for basically everything other than our honeymoon…and our photography, haha. They put their foot down when they saw the cost.

If you’re eloping somewhere tropical I do hope you’ll do cool, exotic looking photos in the water/jungle (unless you’re against your dress getting ruined…). A friend of mine eloped to Mexico and her underwater pictures are ahh-mazinggg.
