A fundraiser and your wedding are two different things. You’re asking people to shell out money for a cause vs. Asking people to celebrate with you. If my close friends invited me to a fundraiser I would likely say no as I don’t have the time or money. this could be the case as you’re comparing apples and oranges here.

I had similar worries. When it comes down to it, all the people that really matter will be there to happily celebrate with you!

Yeah, I wouldn’t do a fundraiser but would try my best to do the wedding/shower type stuff.

Don’t compare a fundraiser to a wedding – two totally different things! That being said, with the exception of some guests who simply CAN’T be there (work obligations, illness, extreme financial reasons) the people who WANT to be there will make an effort to be there.

I recently had a housewarming party to celebrate the home my FI and I purchased. I know a housewarming party is TOTALLY different than a wedding – but we did have a full dinner, etc. I was shocked by the people who didn’t come (people I considered very close friends of mine and whose events I always attended, even shelling out hundreds of dollars on Uber rides to support them) and who offered zero excuses as to why they couldn’t come (other than one brutally honest: you live 30 minutes away and I didn’t really feel like driving) but what DID surprise me was the people who did show up – former friends I hadn’t seen in YEARS. It was a great time nonetheless!

The point is, a lot of people who have gotten married already have givenme this advice: You will be a bit disappointed by some of the people who don’t come, but equally surprised by some of the people who DO choose to come. I just had two friends book their flights who I haven’t seen in YEARS, and it helps offset one of my former best friends I’ve been trying to hawk down for FOUR MONTHS to get her address to send an invite.

Hang tight – everything will turn out the way it’s supposed to 🙂
