I deactivated my facebook account because some people were taking my status updates out of context. I only use twitter to update my blog.
I guess I am out of the loop too!
I only use facebook. There's nothing on my page that could get me in trouble and so far no one's done anything silly to cause problems. The rule I go by:
Don't post anything that you don't want your Mom, SO, or boss to read... seems like a good rule of thumb.
I don't understand twitter. Is it just meant for people's daily musings? Honestly I don't understand the hype!
I don't like Twitter. No offense to anyone who tweets but I just feel like personally I don't care what people's thoughts or activities 24/7 are and I wouldn't think anyone would care about mine. Especially celebrities who tweet about stupid s**t - that drives me INSANE. I dunno. I'm on FB and that's mainly because I reconnected with old friends on there and I like to share pics and stuff. The problem I have with social networking sites and with the constant status updaters is that it breeds this sort of self-indulgence where people think everyone cares about their every waking thought. Also, people tend to be really inappropriate on FB forgetting that other people can see/read stuff.
Jennifer espos- My statuses have never been inappropriate. They are silly quips about life or something that is going on that FI's family treats like a disaster. One example is I think I wrote something like: "Contracter coming over to look at the basement water problem today. Ah the joys of new homeownership! :)" FI's Aunt apparently called FI's parents immediately and they called us making sure everything was OK, eventhough they knew we had been having some basement issues. I mean it was a bit silly, so now I just share very very little.
Um it sounds like the real problem isn't FB it's that your future in-laws have NO LIFE. Who does that?
i must be VERY out of the loop then. i don't twitter or facebook. i do have a myspace account that i don't even go into anymore so that doesn't count. i refuse to get caught up in all that social networking stuff. it's so unproductive. what's so social about being in front of a computer all day?? isn't that the opposite of being social?
I think that Weddingbee is actually the most social networking that I do. ;) I'm on Facebook, but I don't add people who aren't actually my friends.
I don't do any social networking. I used to have a myspace and a facebook account, but I got rid of those not too long ago. Honestly, it just seemed like a lot of time I could have been doing other things (like playing the Wii!).
One thing I find weird is that this girl I went to high school with has a facebook page for her kid... who is 2 years old. The baby can't even read yet. Why not just put updates about his life on your page? It's not like parents' lives don't revolve around their kids at that age, anyway. Bizarre.
Kittyachi-hahaha, you are correct in a certain way. They mean well, but FI is an only child and they really really want to be involved with too much in our lives. It's an interesting balance that I am still trying to figure out. I still do stand by the opinion that having a good relationship with them is something important!
I have both facebook and myspace, although I really should delete myspace because I can't stand it and never use it. I like facebook because I can keep in touch with my friends who are far away and see photos of what they're up to.
However, it seems like now everyone is on facebook (like my parents, my uncle, my in laws and many other family members) and I feel like I have to be more careful about what I say now. I once posted that I was drinking red bull to stay up late and study and a classmate joked that she was snorting cocaine...it was just a joke because we were studying pharmacology and cocaine was one of the drugs we learned about, but my aunt in-law thought she was serious. Also, my mother in-law is on fb allll the time and kept reading my husband's friend's status updates and reporting every little thing he did back to my husband (who doesn't care what everyone else is up to 24/7). My husband finally had to tell his friend to block his mom!
Oh, and my MIL is also addicted (I mean ADDICTED) to farmville. We only visit a few times a year and the last time we visited for the weekend she brought her laptop to the dinner table and was playing and chatting with her friend over talking to us. My husband lost it and I was pretty shocked too. It was so unbelievably rude.
Also, I can't stand all the polls, quizzes, farmville, mafia, etc. crap that shows up on my wall. I feel like it's starting to really go downhill like myspace with all the clutter.
I use Facebook. There isn't anything on there that I don't want family to see because I use it as a way to keep in touch with family mostly. Both mine and my husband's family are my friends on there. Also I use it for friends that I have moved away from.
I have myspace, fb & twitter. I really only use FB...i have a twitter for business's discounts haha. I really don't use it.
I use FB and twitter, though I am admittedly a little obsessed with FB.
I use Facebook, but that is it. I really don't see the point of twitter, but that is just me.
I use facebook only. i was one of those "i'm never getting a facebook account" people, .... and then i did. its fun to catch up with friends i've lost touch with and see what their up to/look at pics and such. Not obsessed, but i can see how it can be addicting. (i'm hooked on weddingbee however)
I use FB, but the more "friends" I add, the more I end up censoring myself. And I say "friends" because if someone asks to add me, if I know them, I'll usually add them. Yeah, it's my choice to add people to whom I'm not that close anymore, but it just seems easier than risking the drama of "Why'd you ignore my request?!"
started with myspace, joined facebook, myspace faded out, joined twitter, now facebook is fading out for me.
NOT a funny story, but I found out that my (supposed) best friend was pregnant after she updated her FB status BEFORE calling me. thanks a lot, you jerk!
I use facebook to keep up with friends. I really don't get twitter at all for some reason. I have the same issue where FI's mom friended me, and also some work colleagues friended me (people who I really consider to be colleagues and not "friends"). I updated my privacy settings on FB so that future in-laws and colleages can only see the bare minimum about me, and they can't see my status updates or photos. It works pretty well b/c then I don't feel that I have to censor myself unnecessarily with my status updates.
Twitter and Flickr.
I have facebook, but it makes me too nervous.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
Do you tweet, use facebook, myspace? What else?
I am a member of facebook only and honestly try not to update my status or profile very often anymore. I find that I am backing away from everything more and more. This is especially true since some of my FI's extended family have friended me and then report my status to FI's parents. This is also dumb stuff that is not worth reporting, but then made into an issue (ex. water in basement of our new house).
I don't use twitter at all. My FMIL told me that I am out of the loop since I don't use twitter, but it seems pointless.
How much do you use social networking sites?
Do you have people on these sites who drive you crazy or who say inappropirate things?! Share your favorite crazy story!
I think mine was when everyone was into writing the 25 things about you posts on facebook. A college a<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: Verdana;">cquaintance informed the world that she is a "foodie with IBS" Yikes, TMI, TMI!
