Ah, I’ve been married a month to the day and my brand new SS card arrives in the mail.
My new last name is misspelled. McLLLxxxx
The third letter is supposed to be a capital I (eye).
I feared this would happen. At the SS office, the clerk was misspelling everything right and left, giving my dad a name that I do not think even exists, giving me a new address, etc. Since my marriage license is in a sans serif font, I anticipated there being issues with the i followed by two l’s and took care to explain to the clerk how it was spelled.
Obviously, the clerk paid careful attention. After we “fixed” all the mistakes and I signed off on it, he printed off a letter in which address and my new name was printed. I should have looked carefully at the time, because days later when I was trying to change my name elsewhere, it had LLL in my name. But it was too late and I was just hoping and praying that the document that mattered would be correct.
The DMV? A breeze, no problem. Credit card? Amazing. Social Security and the banks? It’s like they’re playing word scramble or something.
