You’re right. The squarish basket doesn’t look like it will sit flush, but it appears not to be too big a gap.

I have had both (the latest is V-shaped and it sits flush). My squarish basket left a small space between ER and WB, but not a huge gap.

I would go w ith the first style because it will allow more light to get to the diamond, so it should sparkle more.

That’s the exact setting I want, meaning the first ring pic. 🙂 I * think* my boyfriend may have got a similar setting to the first, but I’m still waiting. Personally I like the first one because that’s the same setting I want. I dislike basket, looks too bulky from side. I think it looks similar from top view though. Both are nice, I just prefer first. Good luck.

Just Wanted to stop by and say I love the first setting you picked out. I think it will line up nicely with a wedding band. I love basket settings,  especially the first  one because it’s not too much metal and really allows the stone to shine!

I LOVE tapered rings.  That is what I want hands down.  I also want a solitare =)  I have looked at so many in stores and my boyfriend and I felt like the square baskets hindered the sparkle a bit.  To us, it seemed that the more open ones, like the first picture, really did the best at highlighting the stone itself.  I can’t remember if I tried any bands on with any of the basket type setting I had tried on, but I can see where you might be worried about that.  I like the little peek of skin you were talking about too and I think the first ring will give you that nicely!

My cushion is set in a basket. I love it because it sits very low on my finger so I don’t knock my ring on things. My band, however, does not sit flush so there’s a gap.

Here’s a pic with a wedding band. Sorry it’s super blurry!

I love the tapered cathedral solitaire much better. I’d definitely go with that one. Your wedding band will sit flush and it’s much more feminine than the chunky square basket.

ep.fantastic: thank you so much! The basket on my ring was custom for my diamond. The wedding band was originally 4mm and I had that custom narrowed to match the solitaire’s band width and height.

My setting looks like the first one. I haven’t gotten the ring yet but the jeweler said that my wedding band will sit flush against the ring.
