I started a great job a couple months ago but there’s been a few coworker problems I’d love some input on.
First off, some background: I’m in a male dominated field and most of my coworkers are around my age. I’m the only single woman in the office. Unfortunately, I get along much better with guys overall.
So, there’s two issues: one is a pair of coworkers that started dating. The guy is my assigned mentor, so more often than not when I go to his office to ask questions, his girlfriend/our coworker is there. At first, this wasn’t much of a problem, but now I can hear their private conversations daily (we share a cubicle wall) and she’ll stand behind him (today she was tickling him.. seriously) when I’m trying to get some help with our software. She started the same month I did, and he’s been there a year or two longer, so I don’t feel like I have any ground to stand on.
The other problem is this girl started rumours about me hanging all over my coworkers, which would never happen in a million years. So, I got nasty texts from a few coworkers’ wives. This was all prompted by me being in the same work vehicle going between sites with a married coworker, during work hours. Now our coworkers won’t even be in the same room as me, which makes my job nearly impossible. I tried talking with them about it but was told it’s an issue between myself and their wives, who won’t reply to my texts or acknowledge me in any way.
Have any of you ladies been in a similar situation? I’d appreciate any advice. It’s my first job out of college and I can’t transfer for another few months.
