we seem to have a more aussies these days so i thought i would post some info in case anyone thinking about buying their dress overseas and shipping it down under
under current rules, if your item (whatever it is you are buying) is valued at $1000AUD INCLUDING shipping then its GST free
IF your item including shipping is valued at more than $1K then GST is applicable and customs will contact you to please pay plus a admin fee (trust me, been there got stung)
please note, this is $1KAUD so if your item is in US dollars you will need to do a rough conversation. my answer to this has been in the past to either split the delivery into 2 different shipments (yes youre paying 2 lots of shipping but it might be cheaper than paying GST) or ask the seller to alter the value on the customs form - which the seller is entitled to answer no if you ask
