I just found out that my FIs work is sending him away for 2 weeks the day after I am due to give birth to our 2nd child. If i go early it won’t be a problem because he will be able to take leave. But if I go late (and i was 2 weeks late with my first) then he will be away when it happens. He should be able to come straight homw, but hes going to be in the middle of nowhere out on the border of New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland. In other words in the middle of Australia aomewhere, and more then likely a good 12 hours drive away.
I’m just venting because I am just so frustrated. He told his bosses months and months ago when I was due, and they told him not to worry about it, they would look after it. And here I was thinking its so good he has a good government position where they will look after us. HA!!
Yes I can admit the money is fantastic when he is away, its almost an extra grand if he is away working a full 7 days. But really, its not the point!!!

I’m sorry about them sending him away! I wonder if it will be the same thing if/when I have kids later since my husband has to travel for certain things that are prescheduled, and he has no control over. Hopefully, you can have someone else there if he can’t make it to support you. You know that he wants to be with you in his heart but sometimes you can’t fight with your employer!

I know its not his fault. He was just as devastated when he rang me today to tell me. And we both knew more then likely he would be going away for 2 weeks in the first few months of having the baby. But they had assured us he would not be sent away across the time when I was due. And now we will be away for the time, home for a week, gone another 2 weeks. Home for a weekend, and then gone another 2 weeks.
And its all because the Fire Service couldnt make decisions earlier in the year about what Mitigation Work needed to be done where. And they just realised that oh look the fire season is just over 2 months away, so they are pushing through work that they have been delaying for over 6 months.
Just have to love upper management sometimes.

Wow crazy! I hope they pay him well for all the trouble they are causing!
