Fi and I are having a masqurade themed reception. Currently, we plan on having masqurade masks favors. Our ceremony and reception site is a Barn (link below) and has tall pointed ceilings. It looks very old world and medevil themed. Our clothing won't be masqurade themed but I would like the other items/elements of the wedding to be masquard based. Any ideas?

Flowers are red and white roses. I found a cake cutting set and toasting glass set that looks old world at www.thingsremembered.com

    Idea would be helpful!

What a fun idea! that will totally be a wedding to remember. I watched Marie Anonette yesterday and the masqurade scene is so pretty!

If you can, may have lots of fabric drapped in the hall, and of course lots of candles and dimmed lighting.

Do you have particular colors? jewel tones would probably fit in nicely.

The cake seems a bit modern to me,  maybe one with more flowers or incorporate the patterns of your masks into it? I don't know, just an idea.

Let me know how it goes!

Between you and the notebook bride I'm so jealous I didn't think these up myself!

Well, the weddign is in Ocotber and Fi wanted to do a costume party.... I really didn't want people showing up looking like Britney Spears or something, so the masks was a good medium!

I'm going to have to do some research on designs from that era. I probably can find some design to feature on the cake.

Fi wants to do banners or tapestries with our Family's Coat of Arms on them. there are hooks all around the Barn, where I could hang fabric from and they have Chandilier lights in a wheel form. Most, likely the lower (I hope, I don't want to climb the ladder to decorate.) I have been debating on hanging white, red, or black, or all three tulle from the nights (We are also having it on the Ceremony arch outside.) I was also thinking about doing Christmas lights, to make it seem more intimate. I think I have a pretty good start, but am afraid it won't look masquarde or medevil at all.

    Thanks

Oh my gosh.. this is a great idea.  I was actually going to hand out masks at my New Years Eve wedding, however we decided to have an August wedding instead.

I personally think an *option* coul dbe black, white, and red wedding would be totally appropiate- and awesome.

Your barn- beautiful!  You could do some many cool things.  I'm so jealous.  :)

I have a few ideas after seeing the barn:

This would be a really fun option- but probably not what you're looking for: (all of these can be found at www.bbjlinens.com)

Some masqurade theme help? : wedding reception CarlisleLamour246

This may be a better option... but maybe not what you're looking for:

Some masqurade theme help? : wedding reception MerlotRagtimeSheer246

Again, still not what you may want... but fun

Some masqurade theme help? : wedding reception WhiteWBlackRDPayetteSE246

Some masqurade theme help? : wedding reception LBlackLg <-- this is a lamour, classic.. clean, a bit more expensive... but luxurious with a great body.  This also comes in a red.

Some masqurade theme help? : wedding reception BlackPintuckLg  I think this would be the best option.  It has the right texture for the barn... and the red and white roses would POP!

You could do the above linen with red or white napkins.. it would be so wonderful.

     2.  Did you see the lighting fixtures in the barn?  Those round chandelier type things.  You could drip strings of red, balck or even clear crystals from then.  Personally, I would go with a color so the light reflected off of it.  This could be a do it yourself project, making crystal strings.  You can buy swarvoski crystals from www.artbeads.com or ebay.  I would go with a larger bead, swarvoski's are expensive...  but you could sell them on ebay after.. and they reflect the light and sparkle the best.

    3.  Have you ever seen vases that they wrap with ribbon?  You could make your vases look more wow! if they are just glass by doing this in your colors with ribbon.  Some masqurade theme help? : wedding reception Jk2 718303

You could even do the whole vase.

4 .  I'm not sure if you've ordered your flowers from a florist yet, but don't. To dp just red and white roses would be easy and with your colors, I think no greens showing would be totally awesome.  Easy arrangements can be done by you or a family member the day before.  Check out the flowers on:

    http://flowersandfreshness.com/b2b/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=385

You can buy 200 roses for 168.00 shipping is included :)  THis would save you soo much money compared to a florist and you could probably do more flowers.

5 . Lots of candles.  Your theme requires a lot of candles.  Go to your local store and buy as many candles as you can afford.  If you want, you could fill the inside of the candles with red little ase gems.  When it got dark it would be so romantic (to match your gorgeous dress!!!- I love it)

    6.  Masks:

For your guests.. I would buy some really cheap plain hand held masks.  I would then  get the bridesmaids together and make a mak with feathers and embellishments for each of your guests. It would be fun, and personal.

I think good masks for you and your grooms would be:

      These all came from:  http://store.masksandmakebelieve.com/morcarbalmas.html

Here are sites for the DIY guests masks:

     http://www.starcostumes.com/items/Satin_Harlequin_Eyemask.aspx

I would order those in red, white, and black.. and embellish them with feathers and whatever else you can think of.  You could also attatch a stick to them so they are unique... I think that would be fun.

I hope these ideas helped :)

I LOVE the fabrics you posted. I don't really have it in my budget to do nice tableclothes.

I planned on doing candles all through it. I would LOVE but can't due to a fire hazard: have the old fashioned candlabras (from scenes in The Phantom of the Opera). The one BIG problem I have ran into is.... no one sells unscented candles anymore...DARN IT!

I already have a florist picked out and desposit done. I'm getting 3 BMs, 3 GMs, 1 Groom, my bouquet, 3 grandparents, 5 parents, RB, FG, and 1 Guest Book Attendent for $300. I don't find that bad since it includes taxes and delivery fee and I don't have to do any of the work. I already have A LOT of DIY projects, one big one is we are doing the food ourselves to save on cost. These are the only flowers I plan on having. I have been debating on adding petals through out the tables though....

My Bridesmaids and other family members are planning a craft day at some point to make the masks. I plan on trying to make more kid friendly masks for the younger kids, and have found some felt ones at oritenal trading. They come in the shapes of animals.

I like the idea of putting the ribbion around the vase. I choose to go with hurricane vases and will have to see if I can incorprate that.
