OK, first a little backstory: Boyfriend or Best Friend and I are both studying accountancy. As we’re in full-time work we are studying part-time, and we’ll be finished with the studies in about a year’s time.
Last night we met up with some friends, and found out that a couple we know got engaged a few days ago. They have been together as long as we have, but they don’t live together like we do. I have to admit, I got kinda jealous (but kept that to myself as I didn’t want to seem like a bitch).
Today in work, all I could think about how much I want to get engaged and how tired I am of waiting. I kept thinking to myself that there is no way Boyfriend or Best Friend will ask before he’s finished with his studies, as he doesn’t want a long engagement period, but I just hated the idea of waiting another year.
Lately, Boyfriend or Best Friend has brought up marriage several times himself, so I decided to have another conversation with him because he seems a bit more… receptive now. I said to him “What do you think about having a long engagement period, like two years or so?” He thought about it for a second, and then he said “I suppose there wouldn’t be anything wrong with that”. I said “If we have a two year engagement period, we can finish our studies and then have a wedding the following summer, so we would have plenty of time to put money aside and book the venue well in advance”. I said this because he’s previously said that he wants to get married in the summer. He thought about it again and then said that sounded like a good idea! I know he was being sincere because previously he’s been very reluctant to decide on any sort of timeline, but today it was so different.
I really hope this means that we will get engaged this summer 🙂
