Lmao! A bowtie on a real bird would be freakin' hilarious!
I've caught myself saying FI and stuff like that on Facebook and people are like, whaaa?!
Oh I have stuff like that all the time. Especially with friends who are also planning wedding but aren't quite as...enthusiastic about it as I am, haha.
@Laylabelle: Me too! The best was when I posted on a fellow wedding planning friend's wall about her "STDs" I forgot it has a whole other meaning!
@Amanda.lynnn: LOL- I love the hesitation as you described yourself as "enthusiastic" about wedding planning. I know exactly what you mean!
I've started to accidentally use abbreviations and such on other sites and in e-mails. lol. I've had a couple moments like yours as well. lol.
Yeah, I def use FI and STD's a lot.. LMAO
<input id="gwProxy" type="hidden" /><input id="jsProxy" onclick="jsCall();" type="hidden" />
I sent a picture of a pirate themed wedding to a few very close friends because a) the outfits were super hot b) those girls love pirates!! I thought they would love the pic and appreciate the coolness of the wedding...all I got back was a carefully worded email from one girl about how I was getting too excited about wedding planning and I should be careful because after the wedding I was going to have planning withdrawl after the wedding. sigh.
Yes, I had mentioned STDs the other day and the SO was like, wha? So little by little I've been trying to clue him in a bit more of my hive lingo.
@ Bamm: LMAO! Just post these things here on weddingbee, my friend... we are one big "cult" that others just don't get, aren't we?
I actually talked to Mr. S's brother's new girlfriend about "STDs" and it was fully out of my mouth before I remembered I wasn't on Weddingbee and I shouldn't have abbreviated. ;)
ok, someone please help a slow girl out, I don't know what a bird bowtie is...please don't hate me or kick me outta the hive..
I didn't even know what SO meant for the longest time!! haha A bird bowtie is an actual mini ribbon bowtie that people use to put on a bird groom figurine sometimes used as a cake topper! i.e. love birds
i asked my father for his brother's adress and i said to "send him a STD." he cracked up and said it would be a good idea. i didn't understand why it was so funny till afterward. lol.
The other day I used MIL in an e-mail and I got a reply that said, "What does MIL mean?" LOL!
Well, we speak in code and I like it!
@Limbobride: Haha, so maybe it isn't even a weddingbee thing, maybe I've just been stalking bird-themed wedding blogs so much that I think everyone else does too. But there's plenty out there I don't know about yet too- you're definitely not hated or slow for not knowing that one :)
Ha ha ha! So far I've been able to keep my WB lingo under wraps, but I don't know how long that will be the case.
"STD" is an abbreviation I just refuse to use because I giggle whenever I see it! Same goes for BM for Best Man or Bridesmaids actually too.. I just think of "bowel movement" as BM :(
I think inspiration boards are something people who are not as enthusiastic about weddings don't get! A friend of mine was planning a peacock themed wedding, and I sent her an inspiration board I found on Snippet & Ink (I wasn't officially engaged yet at the time either, hahaha) and the response I got back was basically "......oooookay."
hehehehe oh that is too funny :)
A birdie bow tie!
I love it :)
I am also having a bird cake topper...that I got off esty (special made for us)...it isn't done yet but it'll look like this:
I'll say things like, "I saw ______ on the hive the other day. So cute, right?" But all I get is a blank stare before I realize that they don't know what this is!
My SO wonders were I get all of my info from and weird abbreviations for such words..still haven't dropped STD on him ha ...and the birds are so adorable..I haven't seen that before so cute!
I constantly try to explain to friends the wedding website I am obsessed with, and they all automatically think of The Knot. I wish everyone knew how wonderful Weddingbee is.
@ Blingqueen: Check this post out & you'll be all caught up on the lingo
http://www.weddingbee.com/2006/10/25/wedding-acronym-dictionary/
Thanks for posting the dictionary link. I needed confirmation that I knew the lingo too. I was pretty sure on most but good to check!
I just joined so I don' thave this problem yet.. but give me time and the boyfriend (I willl have to look at the lingo for that) will be wanting to strangle me!
I think this very thread (the bird bowtie) needs to become another whole thread...like "You know you're a member of the hive when you...."!
Here's my latest craziest moment!
I call up J. Crew and ask if they can send u swatches of pink and green fabric so I can go match them to flowers and moss.
When I told the lady over the phone that, she was like...um moss?
I said "yes, the shade of tie and the moss I'm using HAVE to go together!"
The lady on the other end waited again and said.."are you hosting a garden party when its warmer?" (there is snow in much of the northeast right now) I said "no, I'm getting married". She said "Well that explains it!"
But you see, I'm one of many bees and details matter! lol!!!! Details do matter!!!
I had an extended conversation with my mother over e-mail repeatedly referencing my BM and BM duties.
She very delicately inquired after my gastrointestinal health.
@sulli, I love those cake toppers. I want them so bad but FI vetoed them. I love when the girl wears a veil!
I started talking about STDs at our engagement party. Without saying the full phrase. I got lots of strange looks until Mr. Scissors clarified for them. :p
@Scissors, LOL I can just imagine your guests faces! "Umm, yes Scissors.... STDs.. yeah, they're really... um... great".
well, i just say, "i saw that idea in weddingbee", or "i got this vendor at weddingbee", and my bridesmaids are like, wwwwhhhhheeeeerrrrrrreeeeeeee? LOL
lol I just tell my fiance that Im on my favorite site when he asks what Im doing...and he knows!
Everyone thinks I'm crazy for planning my wedding in detail, they all think I will have "withdrawals". When I found this site I fell in love. I told my fiance "They totally get me!"

Ever had a moment when you said or did something that anyone on the Hive would totally get, but non-bees or non-brides-to-be were clueless? Case in point: today I was buying a swatch of fabric to make a bowtie for a bird on my cake topper (totally cute, I've seen a few Bees do something similar)... and when I told the saleslady I was making a bird bowtie she about lost her mind. She thought I was putting it on a real LIVE bird! Hehehe... I forget that the whole world doesn't revolve around weddings. You guys would have known exactly what I meant.
I started to wonder if anybod else had a similar hilarious experience?
