I have my engagement photos coming up, so I am looking to see if anyone has any tips for nice places in the Bay Area to take engagement photos. I'm in Santa Clara, but we are willing to travel a bit. Also, I am thinking of trying out a makeup artist for the day of the engagement photos, so does anyone have any tips on a good makeup artist? I'm not sure what my budget is for the makeup, but for sure I don't want to may too much for this because I will have myself, 6 bridesmaids, my mom, and my grandmother who need makeup done the day of the wedding. Thanks!
A friend of ours took photos at Stanford. Is there a place where you and your FI love spending time at? I'm trying to think of a nice place too. SF seems like common place to do photos. But maybe you're looking for something different. As far as makeup goes I'm still looking for someone too so I can't really help with that.
I live in Santa Clara too and our e-pics are this Saturday. We having them done @ our venue to make sure he gets everything right on our wedding day. We may try to go near Great America if we have time.
The Legion of Honor is a great photo place. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge in some spots. 2 of my friends had wedding and engagement pics taken there and they're awesome!
Try Golden Gate Park for your e-pics. There's a variety of locations within the park and you can see it all if you check out places of interest and plot an itinerary. If you are looking for a good, solid and reliable (consistent) makeup artist and hair person in the Bay Area, look to spend about $100 per service. (So, hair = $100, makeup = $100.)For the bride, expect to pay more per service as the use of airbrushing and stuff will drive the price up a bit.
I wouldn't recommend trying out a hair and makeup person for the day of your e-pics. A trial is used to create the exact look you will have on your wedding; I'm not sure if you are looking for the same hair and makeup for e-pics as on the wedding day.
I think it is a good idea to try out different looks and comfort levels prior to getting your engagement pictures and then using the look you like as a separate look for your epics+rehearsal dinner than from your wedding.
for your engagement pictures, i would suggest going to the makeup counter at nordstrom for a free makeover. i've been going there a lot lately to experiment with different looks, and i have never been pressured to buy anything. i ended up having the makeup artist at dior give me a great look for my engagement pictures - she spent over an hour to make sure everything looked flawlessly perfect!
for my wedding day makeup and hair, i'm going with Canna Teng from bebridal.com. she's awesome and reasonably priced! i highly recommend her.

Just my two cents. :)

If you like one of the people ask if they freelance.
For photos.... so many options. Your photographer probably has quite a few suggestions. :)
