@Bettyboo1982:  All I want to say is that was really unprofessional of her, and if it were me I’d report her or at least tell her how uncomfortable and self concious that made me feel.

This happened to me as well. Some people really need to keep their mouths shut and shouldn’t assume anything. Argh!!

@Bettyboo1982:  Please don’t feel bad. It was the “way you were standing.” You don’t have to be heavy to seem pregnant. It was an ill thought comment.  Please try not to take it personally.

OP, don’t stress about it. It happens to practically everyone. It’s happened to me, it’s happened to most of my friends, it’s happened to enough people on this board that a similar post pops up every month or so. Some people are just tactless.

How rude!!!! Some people dont think before they speak. I would just ignore it. I used to work at the bank and everytime one of us girls wore a loose top someone would ask us if we were pregnant (cause we were sitting down) All of us got asked the question and some who did were super skinny girls!! We just laughed about it after cause people are so dumb and rude sometimes!

@Bettyboo1982:  UGH UGH UGH Sorry to hear about this.  Some people are just plain RUDE!

I will say this though—she probably feels VERY STUPID right now and I’m sure it’s a tough lessoned learned for her.

If you want to diet that’s cool and all, please do it for you and not for anyone else!

PS-If it makes you feel any better, I had put on about 30 pounds 3 years ago.  I was out at the bar, drinking and having some fun, bent over and my jeans (yep jeans) split in front of everyone.  UGH!  And that was the moment that prompted me to get crazy about my weight.

Hugs to you bee.  And I’ve subscribed to ‘cooking light’ on my nook.  There’s a lot of awesome meal ideas in there based on favorite dishes and it shows you how to enjoy eating…just a little healthier.

It happened to me at a nail salon!  I was getting a manicure, was bloated, and was wearing a tight shirt.  I carry my weight on the upper part of my abdomen.  The nail tech asked if I was pregnant.  I then said no, then she saw my ring.  She asked if I was engaged, had any plans for kids, etc..  Lets just say the rest of the time was very awkward.

That is awful!  People need to learn that is never an okay question.  A couple months ago, I went to a baby shower (and one guest was pregnant in addition to the guest of honor), and we took a photo and it was put on facebook.  Someone decided it was okay to say “Is everyone in this photo pregnant?  Don’t hate me, I had to ask” or something like that.  Now, the two pregnant ladies were in the front, with two other ladies, and the other 4 or so were in the back row so you couldn’t really tell…  but if you have to say “don’t hate me” you definitely shouldn’t be asking…  Best strategy?  Don’t let other people’s lack of tact get to you, and definitely don’t feel like you look fat because of it.

Ugh people are idiots! Never comment on a whether a lady is pregnant unless she is crowning before your eyes. Jeez!!!!

OP if it’s that time of the month I would take it even less personally. Most people bloat out in the same way (boobs included!) that they would if early pregnant. I’m sure you looked great!

I’ve had students (high school age) ask me in the past if i was pregnant. I have a little pudge that could certainly use some toning, but I’m not overweight by any means. I found that I have a tendency to lose my posture sometimes, and my stomach sticks forward because of it. High school kids I could forgive, but adults have no excuse for asking that question.
