It hasn’t happened to me, but is there another place she can call for a second estimate?

I’m glad it was only things taken… things can be replaced, people/pets/heirlooms can’t!  Still really sucks though, sorry!

I’m not sure how long those things take. Maybe because it’s a sidelight it’s not a normal size window? Or maybe there’s some other involved work. The company should board it up in the meantime. Either way, I’m really sorry to hear about your parent’s house. That’s really stressful. You feel so helpless.

It depends on what type of glass it was. Was it beveled, insulated or anything like that? If it is anything other than regular pane glass then yes, it will take a bit of time for them to order it. They can’t just go back and cut it and bring it over. If it is regular single pane glass then they should be able to cut it at their shop and install it quickly. However, front doors can be tricky sometimes. So sorry that that happened 🙁

** My Dad own a glass company. PM me if you would like me to ask him any questions about your estimate.

Thats scary – i’d try a different glass company. That one could just be too busy to come out sooner. My FI’s brother works for glass company. As far as i know it just depends if they have it in stock in the warehouse otherwise they gotta order it. If its an unusual size then your prolly gonna have to wait for it. Call around  – no harm in asking!

Those side glass panels worry me! They should just be on one side of the door – opposite the doorknob but thats not always the case. Fiance wants to get stronger glass put in there so its harder to break.

Your parents might want to consider getting a front door without glass in it. I know that’s always a no-go for me. Way too easy to pop the glass out, reach in, and get the dead bolt undone! Might as well make them work for it!
